I could not come up with the gusset material either. I emailed Nick and
they sent the neat little package of aluminum squares right away.

Hi Jim and List,
My MS Flight Simulator renditions of the Zodiac lineup for FS2002 and FS2004 are
best
downloaded from my website (which has just changed), as Zenith has not updated
them in some
time. In fact, the problem with the missing airspeed indicator is many years old,
and one that I
corrected at least 4 years ago!
Please go to my (new) website to get the latest versions, at:
www.members.cox.net/paulhartl
or, if that doesn't work, try the http format of:
http://members.cox.net/paulhartl
Oh, and for those naysayers who insist that my Zodiacs fly too well in FS2004,
you almost had
me going, until I rode in Joe Edwards' XL (N633Z) last month out at BFI! Wow -
does that baby
climb. Thanks, Joe!
Paul
P.S. My airworthiness inspection, for N414PZ, is scheduled for Monday - after
7 long years of
building!

At the point of laying out the instrument panel for my 701.
What should the rough dimensions be for a radio rack, width & height, to hold
a std radio and transponder?
Is there a site to look at such info?
Thanks, Jerry

Zodiac makers,
Does anyone have a recommendation for bonding the acrylic canopy material to 6061-T6?
I'm
having trouble keeping the flashing flap at the back tucked into the weather stripping,
and
cementing that little strip of flashing aft of the rear hoop to the canopy would
help - but I haven't
had any luck with the epoxy, acrylic cement and rubber cement I've tried so far.
Thanks, Paul

Jerry,
Go to the specific brand of radio and transponder and look up
specifications pages
that usually describe the behind the panel dimensions as well as the
cutting dimensions.
I used an ICOM A200 and a Becker small size transponder, both of which
provide this kind of information.

Paul,
I'd recommend you try PolyZap. I used it to adhere rubber trim to the
canopy.
It only takes a drop every 2 inches or so, but would probably be the
stuff you need
to get a grip on the aluminum. A firm in Florida sells it, but I'd try
a test sample first.
If that stuff doesn't work Silicone Adhesive would be my next choice for
good area
adhesion, but you want to take care that nether of these get onto areas
you don't want
them on.

Try using Lexel. It is in a tube like silicone sealant and can be bought at just
about any hardware store. It is very strong and remains flexible. I had temporarily
attached the bottom of the windshied on my 701 with it until I was ready
to paint. Turned out to be quite permanent and a real pain to remove.

Does anyone have, or know where to look for, dual throttle installation
pictures? I think I have seen some, but for the life of me, I cannot
remember where I saw them. I'm looking specifically for the firewall side of the
installation.and how the brackets are made. I have a bunch of sites in my favorites,
but upon searching these, I found nothing on this. If anyone can help
here, it will sure be appreciated.

Hello Rick.
I know you are building a Zodiac XL but here is a link to my page:
http://www.gi.is/fis/
Go to Zenith and then panel. You can get an idea of how a dual throttle
installation looks like on the Zenith 701.
If you need the steel part for the friction Throttle rod, I have some spare.
Hope this helps,

Yup, Silkaflex, that's the way to go. I'm an RV builder and found out
about this product too late...otherwise I would not have one hole
drilled in my plexiglass..:)
In fact I may get a tube to glue AND screw the canopy down....Gives a
nice finished apprearance thru the plexi as well.

Hi Phil,
I recently placed an order for a pair of struts to replace my bent ones.....
and was I surprised to see that they arrived in a 6" box!
It seems (and please, newer builders correct me if Im wrong) that the old
single piece struts with the ends properly aligned (or misaligned!) for each
end have been replaced in the new kits with a 2 piecer... (2 part numbers
now): a long 6 foot pipe with one end welded on and a 6 inch 'other' end
with a bigger diameter that slips over the long pipe and secures with 3 AN3
bolts. One thing this does is make LENGTH and ALIGNMENT a snap!
So this new strategy will 'fix' your situation, maybe.. just saw off one end
of your existing strut and get a hold of the new slipon end and you are set.
The bad news is that a singe strut now costs $90 for the long piece and $45
for the small end.. a total of $135 per strut.. OUCH! You scratch builders
are all laughing at me (all the way to the bank!) But Phil if your peice is
made wrong, this might be the fix that ZAC recommends (?)

We had that problem also. ZAC is aware of the problem and Nick told us at
Arlington that they were changing the design back to a two-piece arrangement
that allows for 'as-built' adjustment of the strut fitting. We negotiated a
trade-in for ours, you might call Nick and see what you can arrange. For
ours, we were able to measure the twist required so that new could be
fabricated.

Subject: | Directions to private camp ground |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Neitzel" <dickandjudy@frontiernet.net>
Howdy listers I had several requests for directions to this private camp ground
and since I am leaving bright and early on Saturday morning I thought I would put
up a generic version on the list in case a request comes in after I leave.
These directions are based on entering the area on Hwy 41. Exit on Hwy 26,
on the East side of Hwy 41 is a frontage road. When you turn on to frontage road
take an
immediate right on Waupun road. It is about three miles to a stop sign,
this cross road is Knapp. Turn left on Knapp. As soon as you turn on to
Knapp, look to your left, you will see hundreds of campers. Come just a
little bit farther North on Knapp and there will be a dirt road with a small
shack on the left where they are taking the cash. There will be a wire
fence along the right side of this drive way. Once you have the needed
paper work from them all you have to do is find a place to park (and there
are lots of them). I should mention that there is no electric, and water
must be hauled from the farm house. They provide several porta potties if
you are not self contained.
This camp ground is located across the street from the ultra light parking
area on the Southwest end of the field so it is really close to the action.
Last year they were even selling daily passes at the gate directly across
the road so access is easy walking distance.
You can also go to eaa.org (need not be a member to do this) and in the left
hand column select air venture OSH. Then select Plan for it. Next select
schedules forms and maps. Select maps then select the top right map and you
will see where Waupun Road comes into Knapp and the relationship to the
field. This particular map segment has a blow up of Aeroshell Square right
on top of where the camp ground is.
I am in a red F 250 with a cab over North Star camper with a white American
Hauler 12 foot trailer very close by.
Have a safe trip, hope to see you there.

Hello Phil.
Yes, I had this problem on my 701. My solution was to gut the small tab on
top of the lower strut fitting, which gives the attatch plate support, and
then bend the attatch plate down to the right angle. Then welded the small
tab again. It was the only way for me because I did not have the time to
wait for a new part from Zenith.

Johann G.

They have a minimum of *paying* for three days. That doesn't mean you
have to stay for three days.
