Best of luck with your sport training program. I'm interested to hear how
many serious responses you have gotten through the SportsPlanes.com website?
I have called and left two messages with the guy that is listed as being the
regional center for my area (Arkansas) and haven't heard back from him.
Though I am a licensed PPSEL and R-H I have always planned to get a
significant amount of duel and solo before I do my first flight. Five or six
days in beautiful Virginia doesn't sound to bad.

Jim:
Good luck with your flight school. It sounds like an exciting opportunity, and
Bryce would seem like the perfect place in terms of lodging, etc.
However, do I correctly assume that your students will be soloing elsewhere? In
my limited experience, Sky Bryce has got to be the most challenging airport
in Virginia. Short, surrounded by hills, with squirrelly winds, etc. If I remember
correctly, it isn't currently approved for night operations, touch-and-goes,
or student solos.
I found a video of somebody else's landing there at:
http://www.johnnyhouse.com/images/bryce_approach.mpg
On the other hand, with a CFI aboard, it would be the perfect training environment.
If you can land consistently and safely at Bryce, everything else will be
pretty much downhill, and you'll be better trained as a sport pilot than most
people are as private pilots.

All,
My Zenair Zodiac 601XL will be shipped from the Czech Aircraft Works factory by
the end of this week.
I plan to use it to satisfy the demand for sport pilot training. See the attached
Powerpoint file for the details of the 1-Week Sport Pilot Immersion Course
that we will begin offering at the Bryce Mountain Resort in Virginia starting
in September. I had a tremendous response from people who visited the SportsPlanes.com
booth at Oshkosh. It seems that this is exactly what they have been
looking for. I talked to an insurance underwriter at Oshkosh, and he felt that
this was something that they'd like to see more flight schools do.

Martin,
The trailing edges will be cut as shown by the dashed lines, but when
clecoed together with the lower middle skin and the nose skin. Especially on the
inboard side, as the cuts conform the wing to the fuselage and for access to
the bolts that attach the wing. On the first wing I drilled and clecoed
everything together and then layed out all the cuts with a sharpie using the drawing
measurements given. Doing all together made sure all cuts on one skin flowed
into the next.Same on the tip as the trailing edge cut flows with the whole
wing tip shape. On the 2nd wing before riveting all of the skins on the first
wing I layed the 1st wing skins mirror image onto all of the 2nd wing skins,
clecoed them together at the zenith predrilled hole locations and traced
every hole cut and detail onto them. This was a huge time saver on the 2nd wing.
Brian
Hello List,
The Trailing Edges should be square on the ends as shown in the
drawings?
OR
Should they be cut as shown with the dashed lines (on my drawings)?

At least you don't have to find Bryce from the air if you start
there. I remember the one time I went into Bryce many years ago I
used DME to find a point directly over the runway then looked
down. I did it in a fully loaded 182RG which is quite capable
of "Down Elevator" landings. As I recall, escaping from that
gravity well was interesting too. In any plane that glides it might
be impossible to get down to the runway . . .
Good Luck!

Hello!
I have just obtained my plans to build a CH 701.
I cannot afford a new Rotax 912S for the moment so i am considering installing
a corvair. However, if someone knows about a used 912 or 914 please let me know.
A turboed engine would be nice as I live in Bogot=E1, Colombia South America nested
high up in the Andes mountain ranges (8,500 elevation!! No typo, look up
the jeppessen approach plates for BOG)
Any ideas to not screw up?? Also, anyone willing to part with their rib form blocks
(plans built people will understand)? Please let me know. Great to be a part

address all manner of aviation topics for the students to explore during the
week....you'll learn far more than the FAA's minimum requirement. You'll learn
how to assess weather and other flight risks to assist you with "GO / NO-GO"
decision making, making you a much safer pilot.
> - You'll learn how to access and use all of the online aviation data that is
currently available free of charge.
> - You will get a checkride with a flight examiner (if you have progressed far
enough in your training....again the instructor's call). I REPEAT: Some students
will NOT get a checkride nor a SP Certificate. Everybody learns at a different
pace. The decision on a checkride will be made by your instructor.

The Chalet is directly across the street from the Sky Bryce (VG18) private airport and walking distance to the ski slopes and golf course, as well as the restaurant, swimming pool and tennis courts. hours, you will receive a refund of $70 per hour for every flight hour that you
do not receive. If you wish to fly more than 20 hours in your week and there
is time available, you can fly additional hours for $100 per hour with instructor,
or $70 solo.

(130+ mph, 1000 FPM Climb, 586 lbs useful load) with a 44 inch wide and comfortable

SP students don't need the radios and navigation equipment.....it is a bonus
for them. When the aircraft is unavailable due to 100 hour inspections or maintenance,
a Cessna 172 will be substituted for some of the non-solo flight hours
on those days.

This course gives you 168 hours in the nation called "Sport Pilot Aviation".
168 hours of access to a seasoned aviation professional. No more going to the
airport for an hour lesson, then coming back a week or 2 weeks later for your
next lesson, by which time you have forgotten 50% of what you learned on the
previous lesson. You'll learn more, retain more, and progress faster, by going
"immersive".

The school will run continuously from mid-September on. We are planning to operate
year-round: Friday afternoon to Friday afternoon is the week.

than 1000 hours of instruction time under their belts to do these 7-day courses.

Hola Efraim,
The Corvair engine is heavy for the 701, and I am sure will not perform well at
that altitude.
A 914 Turbo could be a good option BUT Then at near sea level altitude there is
a VERY serious danger to overspeed the 701 past red line.
I fly from 5,000 and 6.700 ft ASL with a 912S without problem.
Remember also that temperature and humidity are important in altitude take off
performance.
Good luck with your engine search not much options I think....

Check out Raven, you can get a Turbocharged 1300SVS Suzuki fuel injected
complete setup from them. It weighs 168 lbs and puts out 115+ hp. I don't
know the total price, but I think they are proud of it. But, it will do the
trick for you. Here's the site,

Joe,
Sorry it took me two days. We are having a good monsoon season and I have
been busy at work and did not want to take pictures during rain - which
requires me to open barn doors and let rain in if the wind is blowing from
the NE - NW, which it has been.
Anyway, here are some pictures of my 701. When you look at the front of the
fuselage, you will not colored webbing on engine mount. These webbings are
attached to an old and broken two lung compressor, which simulates the
engine weight and holds the airplane in a 3-point stance. The mount you see
is the one for the 912UL or 912 SL. The 582 and its mount may appear in one
picture under the tail. Note header tank and other misc. parts in the
background of several picutes.
The airplane will fit into U-Haul's largest two trucks (24 & 26') for
transport.
My wife would like me to get an airplane that is somewhat better for
travel, although I am very happy with the 701. I have three sets of plans,
etc. As you can see, a great deal of the work has been done. I would say
about 50% or a bit more. Of course all the detail work is still waiting.
Without the engine I am asking $16,000. With the 582 I am asking $18,000.
The 582 works has 50 hours on it with all engine logs, etc.
I hope you have a high speed connection as these pictures are faily large
and the download may tak a few minutes.
I will be back home tomorrow evening.
