Congratulations Richard! Your adventure has just begun and we seriously
want to hear
of your engine performance and all the data as you collect it for your
Pilots Operating Handbook.
Want to hear about that Ram Engine too!

All-
Wanted to transfer the nose skin/tip cut from my left wing to my right. Was
going to use freezer paper, but we were all out. Dragged out an old tube of drafting
vellum and saw that it had all been used.
The tube contained a project my father had to do while getting his aeronautical
engineering degree at NYU. I unrolled it and about had a heart attack. The
basic look of his project is a dead ringer for a Zenith, except for a rounded
tail. Construction was different, his being true monocoque.
My dad died in '66, and other than Cessnas and Pipers, never fly/owned anything
else.
What's really cool is, if he had built a plane for himself, it would essentially
have been a Zenith.
I'm going to have the side view reduced and frame it. Then, hopefully, I can
put up a side shot of my finished project next to it.
For you, dad.

All-
Finally looked at all the prints. That must have been a looong course! No two
prints are the same. All are of the same basic low wing design, but you have
2 place, 4 place, and retract versions. On one, the empennage looks like a T-6,
on another, like a Champ. The wings all have rounded tips, some with full
span ailerons, some with flaps. All activation hardware is external.
Canopies either looked like the Zenith or a Navion. The 4 place version had
brow windows behind the canopy. One other major deviation from the Zenith design
was a turtledeck extending to the empennage.
Pretty cool. Unfortunately, I still don't have anything to trace the nose skin/tip
cutout with.
Over and out.

The Zenith 701 firewall kit is $3928 and Skyshops is $4450. Any opinions on which
kit is better? I'm about ready to order and would like to hear all advice about
which one I should purchase.
Thanks
