They are the 4' lengths that come with the kit. You cut off the length that is required. If the angle is specified, look for the part. There are some heavier thickness material included in the kit. If there is no listing or just calls for "L" then it's the standard angle that are in lengths. You need to be careful of edge distances too...I.e too close to an edge with an A5 could give you a weaker joint than if you stuck with the A4. Larry N1345L All- This is why my main advice to a new or prospective kit builder is to disregard a "Quick build" and forget about a budget. They're both arbitrary constraints guaranteed to help you screw up if you worry about keeping to them. In the beginning, you figure, "If I work 40 hours a week on the project, I'll be able to finish it in X months". If you don't put your 40 hours in, you feel guilty, and, until you've been burned enough times to realize it, sometimes you have to put 39 hours in figuring out the instructions, researching, ordering and waiting for the right tool, learning how to use the tool on SCRAP instead of the plane, etc., etc. to actually make 1 hour's progress. Agreed? From a money aspect, "I'll blow the budget buying a batch of $50 tools I'll only use once. The ad said I could build this kit using only a hammer and cold chisel, and by God, I will!" To be honest though its more than you need for a Zodiac...You can get a 17AH batt from www.batteries.com that works perfectly well for these smaller engines and is also dirt cheap..Like $25 or so... Then again the Odyssey is not THAT much money ($80) but if it were me I'd save the money. There is no economy in doing it either. The A4s compliment the material thickness on all your surfaces. You'll notice that A5s, as grouped at the junction of the upper forward and rear longerons will have a slightly bumpy appearance that you'd not want to see repeated on your ribs and other relatively "smooth" surfaces.
