Hi John as you have the heaver battery it seems that you will be OK behind
the seat we have allowed for me as the pilot at 154 lbs which places it on
the forward limit OK. We have to submit a weight & balance form to our PFA
for approval before flight showing worst case forward & aft so we should be
OK.
Ray will consider reducing the weight at some time in the future
but at present has the standard starter & generator fitted due to cost.
Merry Christmas to you also Clive

Bob
This is the position recomended by ZAC & our PFA for the
Continental Engine. Also as far as I am
aware all PA28 s have the battery in the rear.
The engine could probably have been moved back a few inches but
we have used the ZAC drawings to make the engine mount. With the engine
moved back their would no space to fit the battery on the firewall if this
is what you are suggesting.

Subject: | CH 701 TRim Options |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Charles Kyle" <Phoenix3@cox.net>
Hi,
I have a basic question. I have reviewed the CH 701 drawings,
photoguides and website and do not find information of elevator trim
except for the factory electric option. I am ready to rivet the skin to
the elevator, but do not want to close in until I have all components in
place. I cannot find any information on factory manual trim or any
parts supplied with the tail kit for manual trim.
Can anyone provide me with info on what the trim options are? Also, is
the electric trim worth doing in terms of time and weight?
Except for this issue, the assembly is going well. Zenith makes good
components. Thanks to all and Happy New Year!

There is no provision for manual trim, and the 701 never really needed
trim when using the lighter designs smaller powerplants. Now, with the
912's and heavier engines I would not be without it.

I never cared for the cork material for the fuel tank. So when I pulled my left
LE tank to have a leak repaired, I replaced the cork with some high density foam
that is used by crafters. It is 3/32" thick and comes in sheets that are ~
12 in x 18 in. I doubled it up to give a thickness of 3/16" using Scotch 777
to attach it to the tank.
The foam is impervious to fuel. I had done a short term test by palcing some in
gasoline for about 1 week prior to using it. The gas had no affect on the foam.
That test piece had remained in a jar of gasoline for over two years when
I finally got rid of it. It never did show any signs of deterioration from the
gasoline.
The foam comes in many colors and is very inexpensive. I purchased it at Michaels
Craft Store ( a national chain).
Anyway, if anyone wants to see some photos of my repaired tank covered with this
foam, let me know and I will e-mail you pictures. When I get a chance, I will
add these pictures to my web site.

Hi XL-builders and -pilots
What is your empty weight and center of gravity of your Zodiac XLs? Would be
nice to get some sort of listing here with information about flying XLs
including engine type/optional equipment and resulting empty weight and C/G.
Cheers

A good hardware sell thin cork by the foot.
Felt is also available, in different thickness, from hardware.
Might be a good idea to use insulation between the cork/felt, top and back
of Firewall.

I found some cork gasket material at ACE hardware. As I recall, it came in
square sheets and I cut it into strips and stuck it on with carpet tape. I
used up all the cork Zenith sent with my fuel kit and needed a little bit
more to finish the job.

I also got some cork material at an auto parts store but it's
impregnated with rubber and seems a bit more durable than just cork.
It's working fine so far-- 1 year
