Maybe the fuel tank vent is plugged, no air getting in to replace the fuel
volume used.

I agree with Cy, I recently purchased a couple pairs of Lightspeed ANR 20x
headsets and they make the need for sound proofing nil. In my XL if you close
you eyes you would never know it's running. Saves weight, work, and probably
money. I recommend before you tear down to paint and add a bunch of sound
proofing borrow a good pair of ANR headsets and see for yourself, Best regards,

Dumb question. Is the center of thust the top of the longeron? If anyone has
access to a WW corvair engine mount for HD or XL , how far is the firewall from
the engine datum, or the set of spools nearest the firwall. Is the mount adjusted
left or right and how many degrees. thanks phill. ( I know I've got info
some where, but I've all ready wasted half a day looking for it) phill

Subject: | 701 Nosegear Bungee |
--> Zenith-List message posted by: "Steve McShea" <mcsheas@earthlink.net>
I have recently purchased a 701 (completed in 1992) and am in the process of
installing the updated firewall. I ordered all parts from ZAC and spoke
with Nick/Roger several times throughout the project. Once I completed the
engine (ROTAX 582) re-install I found that the bungee did not have any give
AT ALL. This is true even with my additional 200 pounds pulling down on the
mount. After doing an archive search I found several messages from people
with the same experiences but was not able to find any messages concerning
successful remedies. I contacted Nick at ZAC and he did not seem familiar
with or have a good answer to the problem. Has anyone else run into this
and how have you solved the problem.
Zenith sent the 5/8, 8 inch bungee (ACS# 1080) rated at 750lbs. I confirmed
that it was not the 1080HD rated at 900 lbs. The Spruce catalog does not
offer an 8 inch bungee with less load rating. I contact SBC Industries (the
spring cord manufacturer that Spruce uses) and they offer lighter weight 8
inch bungees but have a 5 bungee minimum order. I'm considering going down
that road but would like to know if there is an easier fix for this.

I have a 701 with a Jabiru 2200 on which is about the same weight as the
Rotax 582. I also have the lighter nose gear bungee. I have almost 200
landings and I still cannot depress the bungee standing still. But when I
taxi over rough ground it does flex and works OK. I would try it like it is
and see how it does. I have the tundra tires and keep about 10 # in the
mains and 8 # in the nose, really smoothes out my rough runway.

My 601XL WW mount has the datum about 14-3/8" in front of the firewall and
it cants to the left about 2 or 3 degrees (obviously I haven't tried to
measure the angle very accurately).
