Had the same results on a previous installation of my 912. Putting clean fuel
in and getting dirty-looking fuel out will get your attention in a hurry.
Had a clear plastic inline fuel filter which got really dark, but after draining
all the fuel through this filter then replacing filter and repeating the process
it got much better. The filter didn't take out the dark color, but new fuel
run through the system didn't get nearly as dark second time.
Took the second filter off and replaced it with a third filter. After about 30
gallons the system cleaned up nicely.
Cut both used fiters open; no "trash", but definitely off-color.
Blamed the discoloration on internal surfaces of black fuel hoses, various forms
of goop on fittings, etc.
The gasoline does have some of the qualities of a solvent.....apparently it played
Mister Kleen on the system.
Am told that various additives to mogas, for seasonal and geographic reasons, contribute
to this.
If you save the discolored gas you'll have plenty of fuel for the wife's lawnmower.

A few months ago there was a discussion on the list about the best way to line
the 601XL wing lockers. To solve the problem I had a marine upholstery company
fabricate a liner out of marine carpet with velcro attachments points so it could
be easily removed then replaced to allow for inspections.
The company made two sets and I obviously only need one.
for more detailed info and pictures, please contact me off list.

Don't place the blame just on auto gas. One of the prime octane enhancers
in AVGAS is toluene. It is a very active solvent that will take paint off
the side of your plane. We had to repaint our Skyhawk due to a leaking
quick drain.

Gord,
I put the bleeder at the bottom so that I could fill the system using the
"pump from the bottom" technique. Worked well and kept the bubbles out.
I also used Dot 5 with no problems for 12 years.

IMHO,
lacquer thinner is a bit harsh for tanks and lines. I used paraffin (stove
oil) to flush mine.

You can move the bleeder screw to the bottom, it makes no difference which
side it's on. I was told to use 5606 hydraulic fluid and it works just fine.

Gord,
The brakes are easiest to install in the orientation shown on this
link. Brake assembly shown inside, low and angled to the rear.
This puts your hose connection up and the bleeder down. Also makes axle
disassembly for inspection or tire repair much
easier for handling spacers, washers etc. Keeps the assembly inside
wheel fairings if you plan to use them.

Gord,
DOT 5 is what is recommended for Matco brakes. Bleeder screws are
better placed downward
to avoid putting the drained fluids on the brakes at disassembly. Also
you need to maintain the strength of the
fork, so angling the brake assembly back at 45 degrees will help with
that. I used 90s on the cylinders to
permit the hoses to curve thru 270 degrees while returning to the hard
lines at the center console.
In this manner, it works fine. See links below,

Congratulation on the startup. If you want to see what a CH design
looks like up close, I have a 701 at Draughn-Miller. Shoot me an e-mail
or give me a call, I'm in the book.

Yes, try "PCB123 Schematic" it is freeware, and EXCELLENT. I can't remember
the exact URL, but you may be able to 'google-it', or try pcb123.com
good luck

List,
Can anybody point me to a photo of EGT probes on the 701 using R912 & ZAC-supplied
exhaust system?
I'm down to either welding on the metric-threaded bushings or just drilling a quarter-inch
hole and using the hose-clamp-type. Westach, among others, has the
hose-clamp type and it sure looks easier than my previous mess of welding onto
stainless steel on a previous installation.
Already have the indicator and two screw-in probes but somewhere along the way
I have misplaced the 4-piece threaded locknut assembly for one of the probes.
If I use these I must get another locknut assy, or go for the clamp type. Leaning
really hard towards hose clamps!
I'm in the office, nowhere near the manuals, but the ZAC-supplied exhaust pipes
have some rather sharp bends just downstream from the heads. Rotax manuals
specify a distance from the heads, or the face of the exhaust ports. Does the
Rotax measurement end up in the bend? Before the bend? After?
Any help appreciated.
65 degrees F, clear, no wind, and no flyable airplane!
Thanks,
Zed/701/R912/90+%/etc

Hello all,
I'm working on an article for Kitplanes Magazine about the various products
for hazard avoidance (traffic, terrain and weather), and would like to hear
from anyone who's had this gear installed in their aircraft. In particular,
I'd like to hear your experiences in what you learned in the process, what
you wish you had known at the outset, how your experiences with the gear has
been and whether it's met your expectations. I would like to focus on the
products that are not dug-in certified gear, but rather designed and
engineered for experimental aircraft.
In addition, I would like to talk to a few avionics shops who have some
solid experience in these installations in experiementals. If you have a
shop that you felt did a good job, I would love to hear from you.
For the sake of the list traffic, I may be contacted off-list at (de-spammed
email to follow):

Thanks very much!
