Steve, I built the XL and included the alerion trim. I use it on every flight.
The XL is balanced such (probably by CH's smart design) to be a little heavy on
the left side with only the PIC. Need some trim up to level her hands off. With
a passenger, depending on size, trim again necessary, either way. Save money
on dog and cat food, spend it on toys first ! Best regards, Bill

I opted for the aileron trim. I want to be able to fly hands-off
both with and without a passenger in the other seat. I suspect the
aileron trim is the only way (short of an autopilot) to do this.

All,
A previous post of mine must have been misconstrued by some. I'm
getting EMAIL's wondering whether I am going out of business???????
FAR FROM IT!!!!!.
I have had unprecedented response to our 1-Week Sport Pilot School and am presently
booked up through the 2nd week of April.
I recommend that if you have been considering coming to our Immersive Sport Pilot
School, that you reserve your slot early. The reason I say this is that a
major magazine is planning a 4 page article on our school in an upcoming issue
and I expect that we will be fully booked thru the summer after that magazine
hits the street.

Hi all,
I am new to this list and will be a new builder soon (701 rudder kit should be
here by this weekend).
Anyhow, just wanted to say hi and also pass on some information that I gathered
from another group in regards to another possible engine choice for the 701.
For those interested in a 2 stroke power, I read that Rotax will soon have a new
version of there 582 available called the 582 HO (High output) which puts out
75 hp and will cost somewhere around $500.00 (US) more than the standard 582.
Not sure of the accuracy of the information or all the the details but thought
I would pass on the information for those interested in a lighter/less costly
engine option.
I Hope to use the 912UL myself, but will cross that bridge when I get there.
This is a great list full of info and I'm now trying to read as much of the old
posts as possible.
Thanks for all the great info.
Steve

Steve,
Van's sells a simple spring preload aileron trim kit for the RV side by
side aircraft.
I have electric trim in my RV-6 but if I had it to do again, I'd use the
spring setup.
BTW - even with the trim, I find that I seldom use it. When flying
cross country rather than chase the fuel burn with the trim, I just fly
the thing.

Howdy All,
I'm nearing the end of my tail kit and thinking about ordering my wings.
I'm looking for opinions about getting the aileron trim tab option. How
worthwhile is this? I don't know that I've even flown anything with
aileron trim.... It wouldn't hurt to save that money for something else.

I am curious what might be advantages/disadvantages using a 2, 3 or 4-blade propeller
on a 701 using a Rotax 912UL/912ULS. Would there be a performance advantage
on a 701 during take-off etc.?

Reference the FAA alert:

I finished assembling my 701's elevator & stabilizer tonight and noticed
something I hadn't before while the brackets were clecoed.
If you look at the photos on pages 13 and 14, notice the wear on the gusset
edge. This is caused when the elevator is at full up position and 7H5-3 horn
angle bangs against the gusset. I guess it's intended as an elevator stop?
This potential wear point could be avoided (too late in my case, since I
followed the drawings and assembly manual) if the elevator center hinge assembly
(7H3-3 and 7H5-4) is flipped 180 deg and shifted to the left to place the
centerline on the side of 7H3-3 opposite the gusset.
It might be a good idea for you fellow 701 owners to take a look at this. For me
it will be one more thing to check on the preflight.

Now that you talked propellers, There is a limit in size & weight (mass?), given
the giroscopic forces over the reduction drive... Read about it but cant
remember where.
