My empty weight is around 303kg and the UK authorities allow a 560kg max weight,
though I've seen other countries allow up to 590kg, particularly with floats.
My permit to test extension came in this morning and it allows me c of g limits
of 300mm to 520mm aft of datum, which isn't bad (though I don't particularly
want to test that envelope too far...). I've been working to limits of 350
to 500 and the aft-most limit on that range gives me two 86kg pilots, no fuel
and 13kg in the rear baggage bay which is enough for me.

The composite gear also doesn't traverse the whole of the bottom of the fuselage
in one piece, so it saves a bit more weight in comparison to the single piece
      metal gear that way too.

      Group,

I'm thinking of getting a 701 for just some simple fun flying. One
question I have is: can one remove the doors and fly without them? In
the heat of a Texas summer the idea is appealing.

      Thanks,
      Chris Harding

      Hi all.
Building 601xl ailerons. Plans 6-W-2 shows "mount flush" in the lower left corner.
ZAC shows 5x25 mm cutout on front edge of skin but don't mention cutout or
notch along the side. Is the horn indeed "flush" with the bottom (thus requiring
a notch) or just inside the skin?
      Thanks in advance.

Mike- You need to recess the end rib 5MM, so the horn will be flush with
the skin. the 5mm cutout in the front is needed for the horn. Make sure the
horn is flush with the bottom of the end rib.

Need advice regarding slats: Drawing 7-S-2 specifies that the inboard slat fits
inside the outboard slat. Also it specifies that a single notch is to be cut
in the outboard Z of the outboard slat and that two notches are to be cut (one
in each end) of the inboard Z slat. Given that both inboard and outboard slats
are of equal dimensions and that the mating notch is in the inboard slat,
how does it go inside the outboard slat? Thanks for any help.

In my case one of the slats was just lightly larger than the other and it fit one
way better than the other. I checked with Roger in the factory and he said
that it didn't matter which one went into the other. If you made them perfectly
the same, a thin piece of scrap aluminum will help shoehorn them together.

For non-structural items that might be exposed to moisture, I have generally
used general purpose stainless fasteners with a little anti-sieze compound
on the threads. Inside where they won't be exposed to moisture, I have
usually used zinc plated fasteners. I see no reason to use An fasteners in
      these applications.

I have a good looking rudder, not yet complete, with very little to do to complete
(install hinges, and faring), and the workmanship appears to be excellent.
The new parts to complete are with the rudder.

The Horz. Stab. and Elevator are serviceable, but both show a little damage. They
come from a plane that went through a fence. They could be repaired, but
a builder might want to drill out rivets and re-skin. It's his choice. If
he re-skins, he's still only about half price.

I have digital pictures which I could forward, and would add my thoughts on the
      repair or re-skin/fix.

I had bought parts from a couple of other projects, and would like to sell these
off at a good price. I'll take $490.00 for all and you pay for the box and
shipping charges. These are sold as is----there are no plans, just parts.

Well, I tried everything that was suggested with varying results. So,
I said to heck with it--it is not shorting out or creating a hazard
and will most likely not be noticed since trimming and talking on the
radio at the same time is unlikely to happen. Reconnected all the
wiring as it was originally and wouldn't you know--the damn thing
worked perfectly, no movement of the LED at all. Tried it again a
couple days ago and still perfect. Like I said--queer electrons.
