Somebody posted a reference to this recently, but no photo.
The link Tommy mentioned shows what appears to be an adaptation of the Rotax mount
shown in the 912 parts manual.
Can anyone confirm if this is the actual Rotax item, or if it is a ZAC-built lookalike?
Appears that the oil tank is well protected.

Just the opposite opinion here: I'd never paint them. Try looking for
someone who does hard industrial chroming, like the hydraulic folks in
the Yellow Pages.
Mine has held nicely on three gear legs (HDS) for four years.

Hi,
As requested, I have added some pictures explaining the telescopic tube
and spring
that push the two nose gear fairing pieces apart. I have also added pictures
of the individual fairing pieces. The pictures are part of
http://www.utdallas.edu/~klaus/Airplane/nose_gear_fairing.html
There was also a request about the attachment of the wing root fairing
below the wing/fuselage.
Two additional pictures clarify that attachment in
http://www.utdallas.edu/~klaus/Airplane/wing_root_fairing.html
Best wishes,
Klaus Truemper

An Aviasport tach that was working, but then started to act irratic and finally
reads zero. I replaced the tach with a new one with no success.
I did a search of the archive on this topic and found one reference to http://www.sportflight.com/kfb/kitfoxsafe.htm ... but that's a dead link now.
Anyone have a source they can point me to in order to help diagnose / fix this
problem?
Thank you in advance.

David,
The pickup for the tach signal puts out an AC voltage. You can look in your
Rotax manual to see what it is supposed to be. I would hook up an AC
Voltmeter, connect one lead from your pickup coil output on your engine and the
other
to ground. If you are getting the specified voltage, you have a wire problem
from there to your tach.

David,
Sorry I ran my mouth before putting my mind in gear. There are two wires
from the tach pickup coil. One of them should be grounded and the other goes to
your tach input. You can disconnect both at the connector on your engine and
connect your voltmeter to both leads to check the output while the engine is
running. Also you can check the other side of the connector and see if the
lead that is supposed to be grounded, really is. You might have a bad
connection on the ground for the pickup coil. You can also connect an ohmmeter
on the
two pickup leads to see if there is an open condition on the pickup side(
this is done while the engine is off!). My guess is that you have a ground or
wiring problem, especially since you said it was erratic and the other tach
didn't work. Not likely the pickup coil.

Zed,
I stopped by the factory a couple of weeks ago. According to the guy I
talked with, it is the Rotax Ring Mount. ZAC has a new motor mount to
attach it to the firewall. He said the ring mount retails for around
$900.00 U.S. I didn't see any Rotax labels on the mount, but according to
the guy I talked with, it came from Rotax.
Hope that helps

Rotaxers,
I'm wiring up my kill switches on the 912. Which ignition module is Left
and which is right? In the drawings there is a reference to A and B
modules. I am thinking that A is left and B is right, but I have thought
before and been proven wrong.
I don't know if it is critical, but I would like to know.
Thanks,

Jeff,
I do appreciate your opinion and was concerned about chroming becoming a
cause for imbrittlement and possibly losing a gear plate
at the strut welds. Epoxy paint properly applied would probably do as
nice a job at the bearings for me, but plating seemed a bit risky.
I haven't changed the thickness of my gear plates yet and we've lost a
few to the plate thickness at the welds.

I'm building an 801 and working on the firewall. There is an update that
says to use AS5 rivets on the firewall. The problem is that ZAC only
sent 50 AS5 rivets and most of them go in other places.
My question is where AS5 rivets needed on the firewall are and can I use
A5 on most of the parts?
I have no problem getting more stainless rivets if need be, I just want
to do this right.
Thanks. I have gotten a lot of useful information off this list in the
past and enjoy it quit a lot.

I'm working on an 801 and can't figure out if all rivets on the firewall are AS5
or just part of them. An update says "change A5 to AS5" but there aren't enough
to do the whole firewall. and what I do have (50) go in other places
I don't have a problem with running down to Fastenall and getting more SS rivets,
I would just like to know what is the correct way to do this.

Subject: | Re: strut coating |
Jeff and Larry,
I shared your concern about the gear plates after reading of several
that separated from early 601s. My solution was to weld a triangular
gusset to front and back of the strut to plate junction. It increases
the welded area a lot and hopefully will prevent a problem from
occuring. I am enclosing two shots of my fix. Hopefully the pix aren't
too large for dialup users, but the detail may be helpful.
The fix isn't hard but removing the gear assembly from the wings is a
pain in the &$(&#*. Don't plan on doing it again any time soon.

I would suggest using only stainless rivets on the firewall of any
airplane. Aluminum rivets will melt quickly in an engine compartment
fire while the stainless rivets will withstand any temperature you
are likely to get. The stainless rivets are also quite a bit
stronger than similar sized aluminum rivets since they are steel.
I guess a good rule of thumb is if the firewall is steel then you
should use steel hardware and parts on it.
Good luck,
