A noticable improvement in the oil canning dept.howeven I then added a wire brace across and vertically in each section and twisted them to the point that they just applied inwards pressure on the panels, this eliminated the dreaded oil can problem, simple and light. At least on the 0-360, there is just enough room to take it off without removing the airbox. It also has a single 2 piece heat shroud which is easy to remove (without removing the exhaust system) to inspect the muffler for cracks and leaks, so I would assume pressure testing is not required. Both carb heat and cabin heat come off the same shroud. I was told that there would be a maintenance facility established in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area sometime in the future. If this has been done, I would like the e-mail and street address and also the phone number of this facility. I am building a ZodiacXL and intend to install the Jabiru 3300 engine in it. I am not a mechanic and have ten thumbs if you know what I mean. I know that nothing lasts forever and I will need service sometime in the future so I would like to have on file where I can take my engine for service. I also sent another e-mail in asking if the Jabiru 3300 is certified in the US and never got an answer. So long as your FAA-issued operating limitations allow the aircraft to be flown at night or under IFR, you would be legal to do so (providing the aircraft is properly equipped). So there. The drawing was good enough, Gig. It should be crimped as in figure "A" of your drawing. If the 'double barrel ferrule' is long enough, you should crimp it three times. Do the middle first after pushing the ferrule as close to the loop as possible. Then do the section nearest the loop, and, finally, crimp the outermost section of the ferrule. Then you will have a good solid crimp that will hold nearly forever. God Bless!! I live on the West side of Houston Texas in Katy. I have had my plans for the XL for a month or so and have already begun my Corvair conversion to WW's plans. I am planning to scratch build my plane to primarily reduce costs, but the journey sounds like more fun this way as well. I am really looking forward to the education I am about to receive, which I suppose is at the heart of the experimental category. I am also a student pilot (172) with about 10 hours and at the rate I am going it will probably take me another year to finish up my PP License. I considered the Sport Pilot License, but would like to enjoy my aircraft more than it would allow. I am a recent addition to Chapter 774 out of Brookshire Texas which is headed up by Leonard of the Legal Eagle fame. I completed a welding course recently and have begun practicing my gas welding in preparation for the many parts that will be welded. I am already having a blast and looking forward to a lifetime involvement in the Aviation world. I am sure that I will have many questions as I go along and will be looking toward everyone here to help me over some of the humps. I guess I am one of those guys who always asks nosy questions. So I will go ahead and ask the two that came to mind while reading your introduction. First, which parts on the Zodiac are welded? I am a kit builder rather than scratch, so I suppose the factory does all the welding I need. Still, I am nearly completed with my XL and I haven't seen any welded parts yet. Second, I must ask why you don't want to get the Sport Pilot certificate along the way to your Private. It allows you to carry passengers and do most of the stuff you can do with a Private Licence anyway. Perhaps you can find a nice pretty young lady to go on the long cross country flights you must do to qualify for the Private. Sometimes, cross country flying can get pretty boring. I wish you great luck and a lot of fun building your XL. I think it is a great choice for a low time pilot to build. My question now is, is anyone a reasonable distance from me who ownes a completed Zodiac 601 willing to let me fly their aircraft from either the left or right seat with them along of course so I can qualify for insurance. Bren is the better half, but she just want to ride in the airplane. Not build it. lol I'm using a cold saw to cut the 4130 tubing used in the rudder pedals, control sticks, etc. and a Bridgeport mill to put the 'half-rounds' in the end of some of the tubes. For parts like the Gear Brackets and anything else from flat sheet, I'm using a CNC laser. If you let me know what you're looking for, I can cut a few extras as I get to mine. I'm not sure in what order I'll be fabricating everything, but I'll have to build it all sometime or another. Contact me off-list if you're interested.
