Hi Larry, I don't have the overlap measurement handy since I am at my office and the plane is in my shop. Since it is 23 degrees out there this morning I am not willing to walk out there. However, I did have interesting problems joining my front and back fuselage. In my case, the baggage floor wasn't long enough to meet the flange in the bulkhead. I came up around 20 mm short. I called ZAC about this and had a nice chat with an engineer named Kevin about all this. It seems this is the time when all the precision in your firewall and other angles show up. We went over several potential issues and agreed that I could proceed without undue risk of life and limb. I just added a wide "L" on the bottom rear end of the baggage floor to make the connection. I would suggest you look at your overlap issue with normal rivet edge distance issues in mind and decide if you have a useable overlap or not. It wouldn't hurt to give ZAC a call on this one too. That is what you pay for when you buy a kit or plans - technical support. Good luck, Paul XL fuselage At 10:26 PM 1/11/2007, you wrote: >OK, I am wondering what some other people are getting for >measurements for the overlap on the front and rear skins. Randy, I found this after searching the flycorvair site. The link is provided, but I cut and pasted the relevant information. http://www.flycorvair.com/qa2002.html Reply from WW: Factory cylinder head redline is 575F. Many well-baffled installations will run 300F in cruise and 400F in a climb. These should be regarded as minimums. Engines running cooler than this are not as efficient and not at the temperature which GM designed the engine to operate at. Even 450-475F in a climb will provide a very large margin of cooling to the factory limits. This is a well designed motor. I know of no other air cooled motor which has such a high red line. Its starting to get cold here in Iowa, and I just finished fitting the wing skins on my 601XL. After polishing them with Scotchbright, I caught a couple days with temperatures in the high 40's and 50's. So, using the Dupont system for aluminum, I applied the acid etch, washed off, and applied the Alodine solution and washed off. I didn't get the slight brownish-yellow tint to the metal surface like I had when using the Alodine in the heat of summer. It still looked like polished aluminum. Then the next day after the temperature had risen to 55 degrees in the shop, I painted them with the Dupont zinc chromate primer. Even with a small heater blowing on the sheets overnight, it got down to 40 degrees. Has anybody experienced painting in low temperatures like these and does it cause any problems? While I had heard of the Prince P-Tip I hadn't read anything about it until you made this post. After looking at the Aircraft Spruce write up about it it may be a good choice that would give you some of the benefits of an in-flight adjustable prop and still keep you legal as far as the LSA rules are concerned. Carlos, I plan to use those strobes on my 601 XL. when I did a search on E-bay for strobes, I found the same strobe control box used for squad cars, busses, etc. Some have 6 strobes! there's no question that the power supply is the same as the ones you listed below. It would be cool to find an actual aerodynamic clear lens and mounting plate for each wing and buy the E-bay box. You could have a strobe on each wing, on the tail, on the belly, a disco ball in the baggage compartment, etc. Does anyone know where you can get a clear "aircraft looking" lens fixture for the wings? Would the 3 light lens be alright for the XL wing? That way I don't have to wire a taillight. Is that legal? Joe, GS Air does sell the support+lens+leds+strobe tubes as a kit. See item LED-002 at $249. If you want only the support and lens, maybe they do sell it. You have to ask. A disco ball in the baggage compartment... Interesting idea... Cheers Carlos Montreal, Canada CH601-HD, plans. GS Air has a two wingtip unit system that satisfies all the arcs of visibility for night flight. Strobes and LED position lights are included inthe two aerodynamic units. And BTW......."Death Before Disco!" Ed Moody II

I was considering the use of these combination lights as well, but I'm concerned that the rear-facing white position lights might not meet the FAA-required arc of visibility on the 601XL. I have the white position light from ZAC that I was going to install on the rudder so I didn't need to worry about this, however it does not appear that these companies provide combination lights with just the red/strobe and green/strobe combinations, and I don't know if it would be acceptable to have both the rudder light and the rear-facing white lights on the wings. Can anyone enlighten me? Craig- I had a "incident" with my XL which required a new prop along with other parts. I don't have enough data to answer your question. I hope to get back into the air this month. I only had 3 flights with the p-tip but I sure was impressed with the short time I experienced it. I replaced a P-tip with the new one. Part One: I am building Dave's brake and searching for reasonably priced 3x3x1/4 angle to build it from. My usual supplier in Brookshire (West of Houston) is $45 for 20 feet. Wade, where did you get yours? Part Two: This one is off topic, but is well worth the time if you have ever wanted to fly without a plane wrapped around you. Though you might want to avoid it if you have a dial up connection. I received this link from my EAA chapter and was blown away by the video. http://www.jet-man.com/actuel.html Just clink on play to see it. My French stinks, but as they say a picture is worth a thousand words. I can't wait to see what the next prototype can do. Enjoy, Matt XL Tail & Corvair in Houston

Carlos, I just purchased the AeroFlash units from ACS, their PN: 11-04763 A little pricey $472.95, for the Double flash, 12V kit but I think it will take care of all the lighting needs for position and nav, and the Double flash strobes should help me be seen by others. The units are light and all metal construction except the lenses and such. -------- Ron Lendon, Clinton Township, MI Corvair Zodiac XL, ScrapBuilder ;-) http://www.mykitlog.com/rlendon Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=87231#87231
