    Hi List, I am in need of help. I have a 8.5 X 20 foot trailer in the shop getting pictures applied as a show trailer. The one picture I choose has printed out poorly, this picture was to cover the whole side of the trailer. Now here is where I need your help! Does anyone know who owns this picture? Or if you have a 701 on floats and want it to show up at airshows on the side of my trailer I would be happy to change this photo out. I have to have this or a new pictrue into the shop by tomorrow morning. It is designed for 1220 gross and I am flying at just over 1000 so far so we'll see when we get a heavier load. I am using a not too smooth grass strip now. Speed seems to be what I had hoped for at 90-95 MPH at 1800 RPM (0-200 Cont.) Still have to check the ASI though. Aaron

    Juan, On plexiglass a fine tooth hole saw might be a better tool to use if you can find one with fine teeth that is the right size. I have ordered two or I should say a pair of plastic vents from Aircraft Spruce that are designed to go on the side of the canopy that will direct cool air to the upper areas of the cockpit and I plan to use a hole saw to cut the required hole in the canopy side. I will post the results with pictures on this forum when the job is done. Not sure how you can explain all the difference degrees. Also 6E-3 has the engine mount at 103 degrees to the firewall and (?) crankshaft.     Hi Juan, If it is similar to drilling through plexiglass I would recommend using a hole saw and running it backwards. That way you burn through the plastic and won't make cracks. Before using the saw, drill a hole for the center using standard plastic drill or other zero rake drill bit. If necessary, run it backwards too.     My wing kit shipped on 2/2/07. Pre-drilled holes were fine on mine (at least for the right wing - will know about the left wing in a coulpe weeks...) My skins didn't have the tie down holes drilled. They did have all the pilot holes for the ribs drilled, as well as the access panel holes for the aileron belcrank & fuel sender areas. They were also marked (but not cut) for where to cut the landing light (which was fine by me since I'm not going with a wing mounted landing light). Hope this data point helps somebody.     Help! I need a B1 Instrument Bulkhead. I contacted Zenith and they no longer make the part. Does anyone have one for sale, or is there anyone who can make one for me from your form blocks? This would save me a lot of time. It looks like there was a change in bulkhead size. I received one from Zenith that was smaller than the plans called for. Not that you can't bend the parts 1/8" either way to make up the difference. At the same time, if you have a +/- 5 degree tolerance, I'm covered either way. Amazing that now there are now 40 pages of builder's manual devoted to the subject for the XL, but you drop off the end of the earth for the HD/HDS mid-way into the fuse.     Floyd, I picked up my wing kit about a week before you and feel I got the same skins. I talked with Caleb last week about swapping rear ribs #9 to put the web on the side in agreement with with mis-cut tiedown slot. They were aware of the error and have since corrected .. unlucky us. I did this rib swap last weekend and have also noticed that the skins not lining up at the i/b and o/b ends like you. I mentioned this and he said the difference can be made up in trimming for the wing tips and when mounting the root to the fuselage. I suppose when I get there seeing will be believing, but was not happy with the overall quality of these CNC cut skins. On the nose rib, I had to moved it inboard of spar L attachment and trimmed the aft edge to fit. This made the predrilled holes work, but not perfect.     Yes I to had a Late May kit and did not find out till the other day that my Bottom Fuse rear skin predrilled holes were wrong. Around the rear access door cross stringer it should have been pitch 40 but mine were all a very even pitch 28.. Yep phoned up and now I have twice as many rivests holding that section together.. Yep they had problems setting upo the new machine that they missed. the rest were all OK and now the people behind us are in a better off position.. Chris. Do Not archive.     I swapped the nose rib with the other wing and it lined up OK. As the first they really knew of the problem was when I called, no they did not offer to send more skins. Between my call to him and his return call, he pulled all the skins from the shelf so no more would be shipped. I believe that the fiberglass wing tips do have enough flange to cover the problem and probably the molding will cover the root. Hopefully I will be able to verify this latter this week. When I used a hole saw or a fly cutter on a piece of scrap plexiglass I found the center hole starts to elongate and this causes the cutting edge of either tool to wander. I saw a post where one member/builder used a flycutter and turned it by hand. I will try this method next and report to the group as to how the cut turned out. I have a feeling that the hand turning will work out. Since my dad, Bob is retired, he will do the work since he has a lot more time than I do.     If the problem is caused by the flutes of the pilot drill shaving the sides of the pilot hole you migh try replacing the pilot drill with a 1/4" bolt. Not sure how you can explain all the difference degrees. Also 6E-3 has the engine mount at 103 degrees to the firewall and (?) crankshaft. Tolerance: Thrust Line within +/- 5 degrees to top longeron (up or down). Only one way to solve this- what did all you other HDS builders set the angle at? Not that you can't bend the parts 1/8" either way to make up the difference. At the same time, if you have a +/- 5 degree tolerance, I'm covered either way. Amazing that now there are now 40 pages of builder's manual devoted to the subject for the XL, but you drop off the end of the earth for the HD/HDS mid-way into the fuse.     Rick, Okay, I can't remember much about when I did it, but I'll try.. It turned out to be pretty easy.. Cowling off.. I tied the tail down to lift the nose wheel off of the ground.. Then I seem to remember just working the bungee off of the front peg by hand. With the bungee off of the forward-facing peg, the cotter pin and lower rod can be removed. I think then I disassembled the lower bearing, (not sure if I removed the stop at the top of the nose gear strut), and pulled the strut forward away from the bearing enough to slip off the old bungee, and slip on the new bungee. The bungee has to go around the strut, past the lower bearing and over the rear peg of the nose gear strut. It's possible that I had to pull it out of the upper bearing (top cap removed) to be able to pull the strut forward, out of the lower bearing. With the bungee hanging from the rear peg, and around the nose gear strut, put the lower rod into position. Then I just used a long screwdriver or similar to lever the bungee up and over the forward peg. Didn't take too much longer to do than to write about it. I had been worried about needing a special tool, but turned out not to be a big deal. That said, this is on a 2000 vintage kit that had the old peg positions and bungee length. If you have the newer version hopefully it won't be any worse.
