A gentleman who managed the Cessna paint shop for years and now owns a Sherwin Williams store recommended the Sherwin Williams DTM Acrylic enam el. It's an industrial and marine enamel with good gloss, easy to roll, brus h or spray and at $60.00 per galleon, a good buy. Have only tried small items so far but I'm happy. Bob, Wichita

No instructions with mine, but I got a CD with photos. It took some head scratching, but between the zenith drawings and the photos it all eventually makes sense. Some of the parts I received were obviously for something other than a 701 which added to the confusion. I had to contact Woodcomp for instructions and documentation for the prop which they emailed to me, but in the end it worked out and I'm happy with the results. Wes, it really depends on how much of a self doer you are. I have built many hot rods and re did many interiors so doing my XL was not much of a challenge. I cut out thin cardborad templates for all the pieces, re cut them to fit from thicker?light fiber board, affixed mounting points and padded and glued light fabric to the boards. Took a sweaty weekend. Between velco, double sided tape and a few screws I padded and covered most everything. The most difficult process is form fitting floor carpet over the heel pad. I developed a technique to make a form fitted carpet that worked out perfect. List, I am rigging the control cables now and find that I can not get full aileron deflection before the "Y" stick hits the sides of the console. It looks like I am around 2 to 4 degrees short of the 11.5 degree travel required. One possible solution would be to lower the front sides of the console by one or two inches. Anyone else encountered this situation? Chuck Maggart, XL/Jabiru3300

    From: "leinad" <leinad@hughes.net>
Debo, Thanks for posting this link. I'm really psyched about bending my nose skins now. I've got this task coming up and I was rather apprehensive. I'd come up with a number of inferior methods and am so glad you posted the yootube link when you did. I only wish I had know about back when I did the stabelizer. Thanks again! Dan Dempsey (do not archive) I'm also a member of the Sonex builders list and recently there's been some activity about a really cool vacuum-forming technique for bending leading edge skins. This technique may be familiar to some, but just having just completed my wing nose skins, I found myself asking the question - "Is there not a better way to do this?" This looks like a good way to bend just about any skin you need to bend, but especially good for doing the 12-foot wing nose skins. I have not used this technique myself. I'm only including a link because I think it's a great "thinking outside the box" idea that may help someone else in the Zenith community. Of course you'll need to adjust the bend radius to suit your needs and do your own experimenting, but here's the link to the 3-part series on YouTube. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqzToYQ765w Debo Cox XL/Corvair Scratchbuilder Nags Head, NC > -------- Scratch building XL with Corvair Engine Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=128018#128018

    From: "leinad" <leinad@hughes.net>
Andy, It looks like you're getting some good feed back here, but I was wondering if you had considered one other alternative. When doing my light assembly I used a complete nose rib instead the little peice called for in the plans. This I lightened with some large flanged lightening holes. I can still reach it from the wing tip service hole. Then again, being a plans builder meant making just one more nose rib. Not sure you're going that route. Dan > I am going to use (really bright) automotive HID driving lights instead of the aviation-type lights for my wing-mounted landing and taxi lights. I would like to have a little more solid structure to hook to for the light mounts. Does anyone see any structural or operational problem with moving the lights one rib inboard? That is, placing them between the two most outboard leading edge ribs, instead of between the most outboard and the tip? > > Thanks, > Andy Elliott, Mesa, AZ > N601GE (reserved) > 601XL/TD/QB, Corvair, building... -------- Scratch building XL with Corvair Engine Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=128019#128019

That looks really nice! Besides the slightly longer take-off roll, it look s like everything is better than the 701; cruise speed, payload, top speed. I wonder what the differences (design-wise) are between this and the 701? > Subject: Zenith-List: Re: AMD Patriot> From: jesse.sightler@gmail.com> Da te: Tue, 7 Aug 2007 16:16:18 -0700> To: zenith-list@matronics.com> > --> Ze nith-List message posted by: "jsight" <jesse.sightler@gmail.com>> > Nice fi nd! I corrected that in the next email. I meant to state that most flying schools insurance require it but the FAA recommends it.
