Keith,
According to my plans, the 303mm is NOT cl to cl. It is the dimension from 7F1-4
front to the back of 7F1-3. In order to hit the centers of the flanges, you
need to subtract around 20mm for you pre-drilled hole distance.
Hope this helps.

I'm not to the point you are but it seems to me I've seen this question raised
by the group before and I'm a little surprised by the lack of response this time.
You might check the archives but in any case I would contact the factory and
see what they have to say about it. If you get a good response to your question
please share it with the rest of us.
Good luck!

John,
What you need is a feed-thru disconnect. One end would flange mount to the fuselage
end of the wing root and the other end would disconnect at the wing end
rib. Check this site:

John,
I didn't go with wing trim, but for the elevator trim cable bundle, I used a 9
pin DSUB connector. For the tail light, I used a knife connector, which I will
protect with heat-shrink tubing when I install the tail. I will do the same
for the fuel sender wires from the wings. I know there a lot of other wires
from the wings, but I installed terminal blocks behind the seat backs, one for
each side. These blocks are already wired to the power sources. I will terminate
each wire from the wings with ring terminals and screw to the appropriate
places on the terminal blocks. I felt that this was simpler than trying to find
plugs that would handle the required current.

Here is a method that I use, but it is a little convoluted:
1. Go to the following web site: http://www.faa.gov/airports_airtraffic/airports/airport_safety/airportdata_5010
2. Enter some criteria and then push the select button. For Example, you can
select state of Washington and Public Use.
3. Another page will appear. Select the Airport Facilities Data link under Data
Downloads near the bottom of the page.
4. This will open an Excel file that contains a bunch of info about the airports
you selected including altitude, latitude and longitude.
I hope this helps.

Subject: | Aluminum fuel lines |
Comments would be appreciated on use of 5052 aluminium fuel lines vs 3003 aluminium.
I am planning a fuel system for 601HD/Corvair and will be using some braided
flex lines (probably from Summit) and some solid lines. I believe that
most use 5052 but shipping is an issue because I understand that 5052 cannot be
coiled to stay within USPS package length restrictions. 3003 can be coiled
to reduce package length. I will probably purchase solid fuel line from Aircraft
Spruce or Wicks. According to USPS website the maximum length for standard
$23.00 parcel postage to Canada is 108" including girth, thus my preference for
3003 aluminium.

I will be doing the same and ordering 3003 from Aircraft Spruce.

I'm not as far along as you, so maybe I'm being overly simplistic.
I am interested in what you decide to do.

Hi Bob,
5052 aluminum fuel line is for high pressure, 3003 aluminum fuel line is
for low pressure applications where aircraft systems are involved.
Unless you're going to do a fuel injected system or other where
pressures exceed the normal fuel pumps at less than 10 p.s.i., your use
of 3003 should be fine.

Hi Joe,
Their specs say the flexure in the Prince P-Tip prop provides a pitch
increase of 4-inches.
While that's commendable, it doesn't come close to the increase between
14 and 18-degrees
pitch, which is what I was hoping to find.

I am building a Zenith 601 XL, and flying a Piper Cherokee. The Cherokee is really
low powered when the density altitude gets up there in the summer time, making
it difficult to fly and carry any passengers or baggage. As I approach
the end of construction of my 601 fuselage, I am starting to look for an engine
to power it. Being sensitive to the horsepower to weight ratio, I am looking
for a listing of actual weights of installed engines in a 601 XL. What I would
like to have is a listing of a complete engine with all the parts included
like the exhaust system, starter, alternator, carborator, engine mount, coolers,
propeller, and etc. for various engines, along with their horsepower ratings.
I am considering so far the traditional Lycoming, Continental, Rotax, Jabarau,
and various auto engine conversions. I am not considering anything less
than 100 Horsepower. I have looked at the lists for Lycoming and Continental
engines, but I can't figure out if all the
critical things are included with their weights. As far as I can tell they may
be shipping weights including the packaging without the starters or alternators?
Thanks for any help you can give me on picking an engine.

Subject: | Re: Engine Weights? |
Don,
There's an easier perspective from which to choose an engine.
If you've $14K or more to spend, buy the Jabaru 3300 as it's the
"Merlin" of homebuilt engines. If you need to spend a little less, but
want the most available and purchased engine for the buck, buy a Rotax
912. If you want better horsepower at minimal cost and weight, buy a
Corvair. In nearly each engine, you'll probably be surprised how much
more lift and performance that you'll get than the Piper. For weight, I
cannot recommend the Subaru as it needs a radiator, but it is the least
costly engine, to purchase, fuel use, parts and performance of any of
them. It, like the Corvair, demands you invest a little more of
yourself in knowing what the engine requires to be reliable.
The weights of most engines are found at the following page link and
there are links for each engine grouped by horsepower.

out there who has the rear ring type mount.

I feel like I'm the guinea pig trying this new product.

Subject: | Re: 701 with rear ring mount engine installation |
I would recommend a non venting battery. I.E. Dry
Cell, or gell cell. Having worked on lead acid types
while in the military let me tell you that aluminum
and battery acid do not mix well. Even though the
batteries were vented to the outside of the aircraft
somehow fumes would manage to creep into the battery
compartment and cause corrosion. When I started
working on aircraft that had nicads it was a much
easier task to keep the battery compartment corrosion
free.
