Good Morning George:
A gas refrigerator can withstand the pitching and rolling of an RV down the
highway, but, as you mentioned, they have to be returned to 'straight &
level' to work properly. I really like the idea of using exhaust gases for
an
energy source, but I fear the toxicity of the ammonia and the turbulence of
flight would make this system unworkable.
Great idea - I really wish it could work.

No moving parts
Simple
Low amperage draw

I wonder if anyone has successfully installed a electric flap actuator

If so, what components and from whom did you acquire them.
Any ideas on how many pounds of force it may take, especially when extending
them in flight.

If an airplane was designed from scratch to incorporate such a system,
space (and weight) ahead of the firewall could be dedicated to the air
conditioner, just like it is now to cabin heat. That would solve the
toxicity problem and keep it close to the hot exhaust for an energy
source. I don't see how we could comfortably handle it in a 601 or 701.

Members,
When I first got my Zodiac601XL I had a real problem with heat in
the cockpit and found that most of it was coming from around the two
steering rods where they go through the firewall. I don't understand
why the designer made the slots so long because the rods have very
little up and down movement during use. I glued velcro on the firewall
on each side of the rods and used leather cut as per the drawing to
close the holes. I also bought two plastic vents from Aircraft Spruce
and installed them in the forward lower part of the canopy and this
solved my heat problem.

Hi guys,
Any builders out there know of a good sheet metal supplier in the Hampton Roads,
VA area? I'm specifically looking for 6061-T6 in our common thicknesses, and
I want the ability to buy in small quantity (3-4 sheets at a time). With all
of the military and industry up there, I figure there's GOTTA be someplace where
a guy can buy sheet aluminum. I've exhausted my searches.
I've bought from AS, Yarde, and Speedy Metals - all of which I know about and
have worked fine. I'm just looking for a semi-local supplier. Thanks in advance

I am currently doing battle with the main landing gear wheels and

mount the brake calipers forward of the wheels or aft.
The instructions that come with the Grove kit indicate the calipers
should be mounted in front of the wheel. However, the ZAC photo

Any comments?

I am also using the SPAL linear actuator from Surplus Center. The actuator is
rated at 110 pounds with a 550 pound static load. Although I don't have my plane
flying yet, I'm confident it's plenty of force for the flaps.
I decided to mount the flap motor on the front of 7F6-1 in line with the bottom
of the flaperon control mount. It is bolted to the Flaperon control mount with
an AN4-20 in the same place the flaperon control lever would normally go.
The position is ideal because it allows easy access and maintenance to the motor
through the rear access panel. I ran the idea past ZAC and they suggested
adding a doubler to reinforce the channel 7F6-1 and a gusset between 7F6-1 and
the z bracket around the access hole. This is to prevent twisting of the channel
during flap operation.
I'll try to send pictures and the plans I sent to ZAC, although they're not that
great. Good Luck on your project.
