I looked over all the cool stuff there. As I talked with Gus, their pilot, I asked his opinio n of the hinged ailerons vs. the flex skin. They had recently done a conver sion from flex to hinge on their 601XL td. What I got out of the discussion was that the flex tends to center the controls more and the controls were, I think he said stiffer. The hinges were more responsive but you had to pa y more attention. Later I visited Mark Townsend=92s house and he something like the flex woul d be better for cross country and the hinges would be great for tooling aro und the patch. What are you guy=92s opinions. On the ground it definitely feels stiffer but in flight the movement required to get the aircraft to respond is nowhere near the full travel positon. Almost all aileron corrections are better thought of as pressure on the stick or 1/4 inch corrections rather than yanking and hauling on it. The flex hinge is easier to build and mount. At first I put mine centered behind the seats because it looked right. It was not as good as behind the passenger seat since it is much easier for the pilot to reach this during flight. Hence I moved mine behind the passenger and it works out much better. Also when entering and exiting the cabin the jacks are out of the way as you will tend to use the center as a hand support spot at this time. This is due mainly to the weakening of the US dollar against other world currencies. At Jabiru USA we are facing the same problem. The Aussie dollar is now at about $ .93 US. Back in 2001 when we started importing engines the Aussie dollar was $ .46 US. As you can see with a little math, our costs have increased 100% since then. We are able to sell Jabiru engines at our current price because I was able to lock in some AU$ at a favorable rate. That's the only reason we have not increased prices already. I will run out of those locked in AU$ before the end of the year and at that time will have to increase prices. How much will the increase be? If I have to pay the current rate of exchange my costs will go up about $2,000.00 on a Jabiru 3300. There is no more margin to squeeze to hold down part of the increase. The bottom line is that we have about 35 engines left at the current price. These engines will be produced in Australia in November and December and arrive in the USA in January & February. Once these 35 are sold a new price will take effect. Please contact us if there are any questions. I'm thinking maybe out on the wing housed like a landing light. Or possible on the floor in the back for an unobstructed view down. You could put in a pan/tilt/zoom web camera and run a USB cable or a "lipstick" camera and a more conventional video cable. I assume some sort of vibration damping would be a good idea. An body ever tried this? Thoughts? The pickups are easy to locate for the pilot and pass to install the headset jacks, BUT................. My knees (and passengers also) are in that area, and sometimes make contact with the jacks. If you do not remove the headset jacks before exiting, you can easily catch the wires with you foot, If you have the headsets jacks installed before you get in, you also can easily catch the wiring with your foot.
