Those are some great looking dies, John. That was definitely a cool gift from your
cool Dad. My Pop was pretty cool, too. I sure miss him.

Anybody who has made/installed streamlined lift strut cuffs on their
701...can you pass along any info on how you did it; any particular
problems etc. Also how much difference it made and any trim changes to
speak of,
Thanks

Subject: | Rudder Workshop in Chandler, AZ |
Good Morning Listers!
First of all a big "Thank You" to Matronics for
hosting this list and all the others. My donation
bagged me a copy of Electric Bob's legendary book, and
I could use Pay Pal. Great setup.
Second, last weekend I attended the Rudder Workshop at
Silver Sky Aviation in Chandler (near Phoenix) AZ.
Their web site is
http://www.silverskyaviation.com/pages/rudder-workshop.html
Sky McCorkle has a complete Zenith builder assist
setup. He also has a 601XL Taildragger quick-build
kit for sale is anyne is interested. My son & I had a
great time at the workshop, learned the basic
techniques for building with sheet metal, & at the
end, like many before us, we had our first aircraft
structure. For everyone in the SW US, this is a GREAT
alternative to going to Missouri or Northern Cal.

Ladies and Gents;
I just attended a seminar on how to crash your aircraft and survive. I would
recommend it to all. It did bring up some questions, i.e., Has anyone
addressed the best way to tie down cargo in the baggage area of the 601? The
rear area of the baggage compartment is hard to reach -- so the webbing
would have to be permanently attached to the tie downs??? What is the best
way to secure these tie-downs so they don't pull out of their holes upon
impact? Are there any recommended nets?

My Pegastol, Suzuki powered CH701 is finally done. I am waiting my
flight authorization to arrive (after a bit of a mixup). It will be
faxed to me in a couple of days. I expect to be airborne by Saturday,
weather permitting. I will post some real numbers as soon as I get them.

This certainly doesn't address all your questions but here are some
forward tiedowns I made on-the-cheap from rings purchased in the Osh
flymart. In the rear of the compartment I have the Van's tiedowns.
Both are removable but the forward ones leave a flat floor.

708 pounds (heavier than I expected) including the unusable fuel.
3 blade Ivo patriot (light) in_flight adjustable
4 cylinders
Also relevant to the weight is that I have a heater/fan assembly in the cabin that
is attached to the coolant lines.
It is painted.
I was expecting it to be lighter but when I re-looked at Dedalius's (Pegastol's)
example W&B calclations, their empty weight was either 660 or 680 pounds (I
don't recall exactly). They built 2 prototypes one had a 912 and the other a 582
so I'm not sure which applied. So maybe with the heavier Suzuki engine assembly
and the in-flight adjustable prop, maybe I did not come that much too heavy.
Pegastol wings are heavier than the 701's.

Who offered the seminar and where can I find info on upcoming seminars.
Sounds like whoever it is may be willing to address issues many want to
ignore.

Sure Kevin. I expect to be collecting quite a bit of data for a while for a number
of reasons:
1. There is very little out there for either the Pegastol wing or the Suzuki engine.
2. I do testing for a living so it comes naturally.
3. I might as well do something useful while I burn off that initial 25 hours.

Hi Gig;
look up chobert rivets. They are 3/32 and flat head - originally invented for mounting
nutplates.

That is great info. The only problem is I can't find a 3/32 pop rivet with a flat
or countersunk head. All the ones I can locate are domed. Anyone have a Wick's
(or other) part number?
