Subject: | XL Aileron balance cable instalation |
Hi Gang
just installing the Aileron balance cable fairleads.
When you fit the middle balance fairlead on page 6-B-22, you install it onto a
20mm L angle which backs onto 6B5-1. Allowing for the hole at about 5 mill away
from the L angle that means the cable through the fuse would run 25mm from
6B5-1.
When you side balance cable fairlead nylons, its hard up against 6B5-1. So the
cable instead of running parallel to 6B5-1, It tapers forward from the center
Balance fairlead to the side fairleads.
Is this the way its supposed to be or can I move the side balance fairlead hole
back making the cable run parallel to 6B5-1? I just wanted to check before I
drilled my forward side fuse holes.
Chris.

Yes Andy: I have talked with Roscoe Morton who indicated that he had one
flight with the one bladed propeller. I did not get (remember) any of the
specifics other than Roscoe said it flew fine and seemed to perform OK.

Good to know I'm not the only one. LOL. Did you cut the other one the same say
to make it 'even' and add a trim piece to that too?
Do you have a better picture? I can't really see the fix.
Thanks

Jeff,
It is looking good! One question: I see that your forward top skin above the instrument
panel is screwed in place for easy removal. I am doing the same with
mine. I see there is a rivet in between each screw on the forward and aft rows.
What is the rivet for and what does it attach to?
Thanks,

Hello from Flight Crafters,
We are in the process of putting together a training program for the Zodiac XL.
In conjunction with Clearwater Flight Training Center, we will offer discovery
flights, type training, and complete certification
for light sport pilots.
You can come to Zephyrhills Florida to our builders assistance center. Work on
your kit and receive training in an
AMD certified Zodiac XL.
Check out our web site at

for more information.
This page is being updated daily so keep checking.

Dan ( and all),
If you use forced-air cooling (NACA vents or other) for avionics, be mindful
of rain entry into the "boxes". Even if you don't plan to fly in the clag,
sometimes it happens. Some TC radio stacks use hollow panels that mount
beside the radios and flow cooling air through the panels. Just some
thoughts.

Solid state avionics require little additional cooling. Tube type radios (yes
I've been flying that long) sometimes had cooling issues but with modern avionics
it shouldn't be an issue. As long as the air can circulate freely behind
the panel you should be fine.

Scott, well you know you can get some hours with me in my XL until you have worked
the 40 off yours. Just let me know. Bill

Bill:
I have a few more hours of flight training before getting my sport pilot ticket.
Four to be exact. I passed the written test and built an airplane, now I just
need to be legal in the airplane for a CFI to finish my lessons. 23 hours more
to go for phase I - The plan is to finish them off in February, then finish
lessons and do my check ride in March.
Guess how hard it will be to schedule my airplane for a lesson compared to one
of those $#%!@#$$ rentals. Oh, and did I mention I get to pick my CFI instead
of getting whatever loser commercial pilot wannabe that is in line for the next
lesson to build his hours at my expense? I had two of those start training me
only to let me know they would be leaving me to work on their "twin-engine"
hours toward the demise some other poor guys checking account balance. After
the second one I decided to wait for my airplane.
The above paragraph is my experience only and may not reflect the character of
all commercial pilot wannabe losers.
