Subject: | Re: AMD Zodiac XL |
Hi Juan,
I am happy to stand corrected. However, I didn't actually say the
Zodiac was "Just" for fun. I said it was good for fun and
training. I am delighted to hear you are getting good business
travel use from your plane. It does sound like the perfect plane for
travel around a single state - even a long one like Florida.
My goal in the post comparing Cessnas and Zodiacs was to put some
measure (metric) into the comparison rather than just a brand name
comparison. The Cessna brand is a lot more diverse than the Zodiac
brand. Zodiacs all have 2 seats and roughly the same
performance. Cessnas vary from the low-and-slow 140 through assorted
Citation business jets. I felt Mark was not giving a fair comparison
between Cessnas and Zodiacs when he said the Cessnas are less responsive.
I also wanted to point out that Zodiac owners might be happy with
that plane for a long time, but the limits of seats and baggage
constraints might cause them to want a larger plane at some
point. It is not just the handling characteristics that causes a
pilot to want a different plane.
I could also have pointed out that the Zodiac is slow compared to
some other GA planes, but I don't actually think that is a
significant point. While there are a few GA planes that are a lot
faster than the Zodiac, I feel that extra speed doesn't often mean
significantly less travel time in the distance that is really
practical to fly yourself. I feel long distance travel is a lot more
practical by getting on the jet airliner than flying your own small
plane. I agree with you that the low fuel burn in a Zodiac is very
significant when choosing which plane to take on a given trip.
Best regards,
Paul

Here is a great series of Bud Davisson welding articles if you're an EAA member.

You asked about welding instruction. Here is the link to a government sponsored handbook: http://www.fortunecity.com/village/lind/247/index_WELD.htm
Also, Tinmantech is a good reference: http://tinmantech.com/

My crate was completely undamaged except you could tell that it had been "set down
hard" on that end. The problem is that the angle of the forward edges of the
skin is more acute than the angle of the crate so the skins inside simply shifted
and crumpled when the crate was mishandled.
That is why I thought that letting them know might get them to change the angle
on the end of the crate and keep others from the same experience.
Larry Hursh <skyridersbn@yahoo.com> wrote: Is this the way it came out of the shipping
crate? Does the crate show signs of being damaged on that end? If so,
IMMEDIATELY take a picture of the part AND the crate! You have a claim for
the part that was damaged. I personally would NOT put this wavy skin on my airplane
and have it look like this. If the shipping crate wasn't damaged, I would
CALL Zenith immediately and let them know how you received this skin. It
should NOT have any waves whatsoever on it. From what I can tell from the picture,
it looks like the end was "jammed" by something. As I said, take pictures
and call Zenith. They can get a replacement skin sent out to you and possibly
help you file the claim from the people that delivered it to you. You want
your aircraft to not only function well, you want it to LOOK GOOD TOO, right???
I would certainly would especially when you are going to spend this much
money on your airplane!

You could always get it from Zenith.
