Yesterday, Klaus Truemper wrote " . . . . since cabin pressure is always
less than outside pressure." In my 601HD, there is a 1/4" gap between the
lower edge of the canopy and the upper longeron. In flight, why is my
shirt sleeve always sucked out through the gap (left or right side)?

Hi John,
The pressure differential you mention at the canopy/longeron gap
is due to the fact that there is VERY low pressure above the
wing. So indeed, pressure over the wing is lower than
cockpit pressure. One time, that gap tried to "eat" my
sectional!
What I meant is atmospheric pressure,
which the static port(s) attempt to capture. That pressure
is higher than cockpit pressure.
Happy flying,
Klaus

Subject: | Re: Rotax 912 fuel pump |
Hi John,*
*1. Any decent metal automotive fuel filter will do.
2. According to the Rotax manual, max pressure of the
backup pump should not exceed 5.8 psi.
A good choice is the Facet pump #4015.
Aircraft Spruce offers this pump. There is also another
Facet pump that goes up to 6 psi. Do NOT install that pump
since it exceeds the Rotax psi limit.
3. We mounted the Facet pump on the firewall
downstream from and a bit higher than the gascolator.
4. Our gascolator is just an aluminum box with a quick drain.
It was part of the kit and does not have a screen.
5. Our arrangement is as follows:
gascolator -> filter -> Facet pump -> Rotax pump
There are other arrangements possible. Some aspects were
covered earlier (series versus parallel).
6. A backup pump can be a grief- or even life-saver.
Happy flying,
Klaus

Hello, all
I have a question for rivedrill users: have you been using the tool for A4
rivets? If so, how?
I ask because the smallest head they had at the time I bought it (five years
ago or more) was too big for the A4 - I use it for A5s.
Thanks in advance
Carlos

I'll be in Austin, Tx, next week, and I'll have a few hours to kill on
Thursday eve and Friday morning.
Is there any aviation museum nearby? I did a quick Google, but didn't see
anything...
Cheers

Carlos.
I pulled nearly all the rivets in my 601XL with a Rivedrill. When I was at that
stage, I kept two of them, chucked into different drills, one for A4s and another
for A5s. I had no problem with either size. I ground the dome shape in the
nose pieces myself.

Subject: | CH601HD brake lines |
Can anyone give advise on routing brakes lines and what to use on my 601HD. I
am at the point of closing the wing center section top skins. I am thinking about
using 1/8" aluminum tubing and going through the daylight lower corners of
the rear ribs just behind the main spar. I just don't see a good neat way to
route between the gear and the pedals. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Michael French

Hey Carlos,
There is a CAF museum in Burnet which is about 50 miles from Austin.
