I don't speak the language, if you wish to examine the interpretation look
at the other postings. I understand that the builder or manufacturer has no
relation to Zenith. That does not mean that the aircraft is not a Zenith. He
said that the word clone is being used incorrectly. Why is it important to
declare this is not a Zenith.

What is really suspicious to me is that this incident happened a year ago. Why
is it BIG (and pervasive) news now?
I am now believing that there are some on this list that WANT the Zodiac to appear
flawed and must have a compelling reason to discredit the design. Could it
be that they have a need for Zenith to cease to exist?
Besides those whom this string has intimidated to quit building, I know of at least
one flying XL that is being parted out because of this witch hunt.

I suspect it was dug up by the "Engineering" group on this forum to bolster
their position for an independent design review.
Once again, huge speculations are being made, uninformed comments are being
presented, and unsupported "conclusions" are being made.
It was a great last few weeks on the list with actually building comments
being made and none of this crap. Lets get back to the purpose of this
list, which is to trade building information and support.

What is really suspicious to me is that this incident happened a year ago. Why
is it BIG (and pervasive) news now?
Why? because no one on this list knew about this accident until just recently.
Don't see how is this suspicious, are we suppose to know every accident that
happened around the world right after it happens?
I am now believing that there are some on this list that WANT the Zodiac to appear
flawed and must have a compelling reason to discredit the design. Could it
be that they have a need for Zenith to cease to exist?
Do you mean that we have Zenith competition infiltrated in this list? or do you
believe that some builders, after investing time and money in their projects,
they now just want to ruin Zenith reputation by discrediting the design?[b]
Besides those whom this string has intimidated to quit building, I know of at least
one flying XL that is being parted out because of this witch hunt.
[b]Those who quit building did it because of the accidents, no need to look for
a scapegoat.

Have you read the designers letters on the issue? To paraphrase, it is his position
that the accident aircraft had either been over stressed at the time of the
accident or that the final failure was a result of cumulative overstress of
the airframe. He has provided a virtually free correction method which is to
add a couple of little plastic parts that limits the available downward force
of the elevator.
There are those of us that think that the designer is the best person to go to
for this. There are others that don't. To each their own. I went out to the airport
and added the modification to my not yet flying 601xl and it took me about
30 minutes.

I PASSED!!!!! It was very unstable air with thunder storms building

Well done Larry. Welcome to the exclusive club of licensed pilots.
One little suggestion. When you start taking passengers you might
want to limit them to one at a time for a little while. Passengers
can be very distracting, and in groups they can be overwhelming.

Ha! Man that brings up memories!
When I got my PPL, the first people I took for a ride were my three kids (my
wife hated flying in planes that didn't have an isle and a lady pushing a
drink cart...but she is getting better). After an hour flying, we were
about 5 minutes out from landing and my oldest tapped me on the shoulder and
asked "if one had to barf...where would they do it?". Bless her heart, she
pulled open her t-shirt at the neck and barfed into a tucked in shirt!
That totally grossed out the other two who proceeded to sympathy barf, but
on the floor. I could not wait to get the plane on the ground! Not so sure
the FBO was glad to see me.

CONGRADULATIONS!
I think is normal for something not to be perfect on checkride day. For me it was
not weather, but radar out at my home airport with giant runways, Long Beach,
that I was used to, so we went to tiny, untowered Compton. I was pouring sweat,
but did ok.

storms building everywhere, but I bounced my way to a successful check ride
and I am now a private pilot. I am very worn out from it all. My wife and kids
wanted rides, but I told them that I needed to rest and relax before I give
them rides. I want to thank everyone who responded with different ideas.
Now it is back to the build.
