A photo manual and instruction book came with the floats but no actual drawings. However, if it is enough for you I can take pics of them and you can then indicate what dimensions and distances you want to have measured - if you really want to scratchbuild. Basically you need a shorter landing gear spring, the welded triangle front frame and the nosewheel folding mechanism together with an extended gear tube. Additionally it might be advantageous to offload the firewall somewhat using a steel profile from the float attachment brackets to the engine mount upper fuselage fastening points. This reinforcement is however easy also to retrofit later. The wheel folding hinge mechanism by CZAW is not particularly well designed, a friend's 701 lost the nose wheel in swells as the slight sideload broke the edge welding and the lower part was lost at sea. Fortunately he noticed that the front tyre was missing before attemting a runway landing... Best regards Max building a 701SP-912S on a-floats in Helsinki, - engine installed, presently doing wiring

That's got to be the neatest trick I've seen in years! Thanks Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=188492#188492

Dave, I'm really glad you posted the photos. I was also hoping to use PVC pipe, but wasn't sure it would be stiff enough. I have a couple small questions though. When you bent your nose skin, did you make the nose skin wide and center the pipe and trim afterward? Or, did you use the 407mm top and 411mm bottom to locate the pipe? Also, what size pipe is that? It looks bigger than the 1-3/8 called for in the drawings. Thanks again. I build brake lines. Any builder (with any luck one near by) who is in need of Teflon core stainless steel braided brake lines please contact me. I would (ideally) would like to find a builder near that I can "mock up", but regardless the builder who is willing to work with me (that is the builder of each model Zodiac XL, CH 701 and CH 801) will only pay the shipping costs for the brake lines as we are developing them for each build. When done the lines will be yours. Your current brake configuration should be stock (plans built). I hope to hear from some builders soon, but if not well the best of all to you and good luck with your builds. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=188539#188539

Hi Dan, The nose skin in the photos was for a Sonex. That's why the pipe looked larger. It was 1.5" schedule 40 PVC. I made clamps out of scrap .040 which I screwed to my table to hold the pipe down. Stiffness was not an issue. You should make the top and bottom dimensions the same so you can pull the skin edges together. Trim after bending. This really was surprisingly easy. Check out the videos here for more details: http://sonexproject.com/Builder%20Resources.html Many aspects of building the Sonex and a Zenith design are the same. I've learned a lot from both camps.
