Bill of Georgia has also posted his experience with flutter while passing over an electric plant. My goal is to find out how rare (or prevalent) the occurrence of flutter is in 601XL's. Those are the only two instances of flutter that I recall reading about. If you have experienced flutter in your 601XL, I would very much appreciate receiving as complete a description as possible: * Flight conditions, IAS, altitude, temperature, maneuvers * Total hours on your aircraft at the time of the incident * Flight maneuvers taken in response to flutter and the effect, if any, on the flutter * Any subsequent changes or modifications done to your aircraft to eliminate the flutter Please respond on- or off-line as you prefer. My goal is just to collect information here, not to start a flame-war. To reach the widest possible audience, I am posting this on both the Zenith-List and the ZBAG forum. Thank you for sharing your experience. Terry > >At 02:42 PM 5/9/2008 -0700, Tom wrote: > >>My KitLog E-mail From: mimsdsl@dnet.net > >> > >> ... > >> > >>Tom Mims > >> > >>P.S. The 6061 identifies the alloying elements added to the aluminum and the T6 identifies the heat treat process. A mass spectrometer would be one way to confirm the 6061 specification and a hardness test could then probably verify the T6 specification. I'm no expert but a good metallurgical lab should have no trouble with this identification. Maybe a university lab would have the needed equipment. The 6061 specification requires about 1g of material (and costs $160). The T6 test (tensile) requires samples 2" long for one lab case and 5" long for another ($70 per test). Problem is, my sample is that small 0.125 thick, square triangle, small side 15 mm. A bigger sample destroys the subject of the testing. I was hoping somebody on this list would have gone through this... I guess not, but thanks, anyway Carlos 2008/7/5 Bryan Martin : > > It's certainly possible. The shorter life expectancy of the brighter screen would worry me. So too, once used to the bright screen, the dim screen while running on internal battery would seem a distraction to me. The last thing one needs during a power failure is straining to see the 'new' dim screen. I wrote to them, but they never wrote back. Dynon did talk to me last Air Venture about it. P.S. My last post assumed Dynon still drops the intensity to 300 nit during a power failure/back up run on the 800 nit screen models but allows the 400 nit D180 owners to maintain that intensity even when running on back up. If you 800 nit owners can maintain their 800 nit screen while running on back up, how long does it last?
