TWO people have been found dead after their ultra light aircraft crashed into a
ridge north of Charters Towers during a two-week Gulf of Carpentaria flying safari.
Police located the wreckage of the crashed Zenith Zodiac 601 about 11am after a
full-scale two-day air and ground search in north Queensland.
Both the pilot and passenger, of Cessnock in New South Wales, are understood to
have been killed on impact.
Fellow aviators in the club flyout - involving eleven aircraft - were too upset
to speak about the loss.
Club president Keith Rule told The Courier Mail they had lost two very good friends.
He declined to publicly release names of the victims until family have been notified.
He said the flying conditions had been perfect and they were at a loss as to what
caused the accident

This post implies that the accident happened in recent days but does
not give any clue as to when it actually happened. I did an internet
search and found nothing. Please let us know in what month and year
this occurred. I am sure that many others are saddened as I am at
the loss of life and grief of friends and family.

I like it much better being able to separate airframes. But the cross posting is
annoying for the same reason I like it. I do think that it should be structured
as as sub lists under the main of Zenith though, it would make searching a
just like it was and give you fellas a feeling of wholeness, I guess is the word
I'm looking for.

I have an N number, that is all that matters, and that is the point. Keep building,

fingers at why someione's plane crashed.

Yes, I understand what you are saying, but I believe it would require

I'm not using the fiberglass wing tips but if it, the light base, protrudes
beyond
the furthest and highest outboard point of the wingtip, you will have great
light coverage.
Hope that's clear, I know what I mean anyway, do you? :)

All-
I totally agree with you, Craig. Even prior to the split, the archives
were never a way of getting information quickly. In addition, I never know
if something got through or a reply wound up on another list.

Looks fine to me. I am also thinking of this. It is encouraging that you took a
stab at it and it turned out pretty nice. I wish Zenith would address this on
701s. Some one at Zenith has to have a family member who can sew upholstery,
it would be a great side job for them.

Dave,
What are the length and width of the base of the light you want to use?
What is the length and with of the light mounting base on the wing tip from Zenith?
If the base of the wingtip from zenith is short in either direction you can
easily build up the areas with more fiberglass.
I do recall you saying you have little skills, well here is an opportunity to
learn by doing. Most all of this stuff is an improvisation keeping structural
integrity and safety foremost in your actions. The light mounting is not a
structural part other than it holds the light fixture and deflects air.
Give it some thought about how you want it to look, draw it up if you can.
There is a lot of satisfaction in in creating and executing your own design
changes. Get with your EAA tech consoler and talk it out, I am sure they will
have some suggestions and may even show you how to do what you want. I think
the EAA motto is "See, Learn, Do". I think you can see what you want, now learn
how, then do it.
Feel free to ask more questions,

Looks fine to me. I am also thinking of this. It is encouraging that you
took a stab at it and it turned out pretty nice. I wish Zenith would addres
s
this on 701s. Some one at Zenith has to have a family member who can sew
upholstery, it would be a great side job for them.

Alberto... Juan does have a serial number, 6-6430. I would not appreciate someone
challenging me like that either and may well refuse to respond to a similar
demand. Juan has a beautiful airplane and is rightfully proud of it. Wild
speculation not only hurts the value of all our airplanes unnecessarily, but
it can be very irritating. Sometimes I think it best for novice builders to follow
my lead and do more listening than writing until they have at least one
bird in the air. I followed this list a couple of years before posting much of
anything. I could not have built my plane without it. There are so many great
builders out there that we rarely hear from any more. I hope we are not
driving them away.
Those overly concerned about the design should hold off such discussion at least
until after Air Venture and our one on one and group discussions with Zenith.
Again, I want to thank the list--hope to meet you all at the Zenith dinner.

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed that the youngest member of the list and
the 601 builder community, is also apparently the wisest???
Sabrina, Whatever you decide to do for a career, let me know. I'm gonna buy stock
in that company. You will make a difference.
You are an impressive young lady, and a number of us could do well to take a lesson
on how to act, and how to build airplanes at the same time
Looking forward to great things from you :D

Do you know something the rest of us don't in this area? Not everyone will
be able to make OSH, after all...
