Just finished talking to a reporter at the Sun-Sentinel yesterday and he
already has the story in the paper. Here's the link for anyone interested.

Guess I'll get the Minneapolis paper instead of the ST Paul paper tomorrow!

Subject: | ch601 HDS BUNGEE HELP !!! |
Howdy all;
I am confused on the installation of the main gear bungee, and I was hoping
you guys could help.
I purchased an older 601 HDS and installed a new engine (Great Plains VW
with water cooled heads)
Well the bungee gear was old and sagging, so I ordered new bungee. I
replaced the nose bungee, but
just stopped and scratched my head on the main gear bungee.
How do I get to it? It's all bolted up in the metal gear box and I don't see
how I could get to the bolt
heads to remove the gear box. Am I missing something?
Please email me back if you know the secret to changing main gear bungee
cords on a 601 HDS.
Thanks !!!

Hi Roger,
I've a gear page for the 601HDS that probably will help you with
disassembly and replacement
of the main gear bungees. I'd do just one side at at time.
The principal issue is placing a jack-stand at splice plates. Remove the
main wheel, disconnect brake lines
and then unbolt front and rear gearbox bolts. Remove the top gear cap
and bolts on top the wing.
Then slide the whole gear with box and bungee from the angles. Remove
tie-ties and the bungees.

Subject: | ELT placement question USA FAR |
We are getting ready to install our ELT. We have made an extra access panel just
in front of the aft bulkhead, on the floor of our HDS. It is big enough to
mount the ELT on the inside of the access port. If we do this, when we unscrew
the port cover, the ELT will come off with the port cover. Here is the question.
In the United States, will this violate any FAR mounting instructions.
If so, can some one tell me which FAR would be violated?
Thanks phill hartig

I purchased my gauges and matching sending units from egauges.com. Great service
and reasonable prices.
