Hi Roger,
While the plane is on the ground, you can remove the top cap
since it will not be at the stop. You can also remove the bolts
under that wing, holding the gear in place, assuming that you have
already disconnected the brake line. Now when you slowly raise
the wing with a jack, the gear will come out of the gear box.
The reverse process is more difficult, since the bungees preload
the gear, and the bungees must be stretched if the gear tube
is to stick out a bit above the wing. There are two ways to
do this. First, you can use longer bolts with the top retaining
cap and gradually
pull up the tube from the top. When you cannot turn the
bolts any more, you lower the wing so that the weight
of the plane holds the gear up, remove one bolt at a time
and add washers, and repeat the process until you have pulled
up the tube to add the retaining plate with the originial bolts.
Another solution that makes subsequent bungee
changes really easy, is described on the page
http://utdallas.edu/~klaus/Airplane/gear_stop_by_bolt.html
Happy flying,
Klaus

Larry, Not sure you have not already covered this BUT I am having one BIG jo
b trying to install the nuts on the top bolts that goes through the angles o
n the wing bottom. Have though about removing the gears and installing nut p
lates. Cann't see or feel the bolts. How did you do it? Thanks Jerry of Ga.

Hi Roger,=C2-
I've a gear page for the 601HDS that probably will help you with disassembly
and replacement=C2-
of the main gear bungees. I'd do just one side at at time.=C2-
The principal issue is placing a jack-stand at splice plates. Remove the mai
n wheel, disconnect brake lines=C2-
and then unbolt front and rear gearbox bolts. Remove the top gear cap and bo
lts on top the wing.=C2-
Then slide the whole gear with box and bungee from the angles. Remove tie-ti
es and the bungees.=C2-

Wow! Beautiful ship. Love the bubble windshield and large transparent doors.
I'm drooling on my keyboard. Please please post every detail you can!

Hi Jerry,
The bolts inserted from the outside in is difficult, but you can weld a
socket to an "L" handle that will enable the fixed position while
turning the head from outside.
See tool at the link,
http://www.macsmachine.com/images/TJH/gearAW/full/gear-support-nut-holding-wr.gif
A perhaps better solution suggested the use of a metal strip that had
matching threaded holes that could be found and more easily got to from
the outside.
Pushing the bungees out of the way is also great fun while putting the
nuts in, but I've done this three times and can do it in about
20-minutes now.

On the AMD web site I found this:
Redesigned in 2008 - the Zodiac CH 650:
"The Zodiac CH 601 XL aircraft was redesigned for the Light Sport Aircraft
category in 2004. The Zodiac CH 650 LS and LSi are different than the XL.
The 650 series incorporates many changes that were made to the 601 series in
Europe and around the world. The 650 series incorporates the best of
everything. The Most noticeable difference is the canopy and rudder. Other
changes includes lowering of the trailing edge of the wings (lowers the nose
of the aircraft for better visibility), control changes (more balanced),
tougher fuselage (good for flying schools), new canopy latching - locking
system (easier to close and open the canopy), and a lot more."
The canopy appears to offer some roll-over protection and the rudder is
all-flying but looks different. Part of the canopy is fixed in place.
Is this new or am I just catching up?
