Hey list,
I don't talk much and lately haven't been reading much. I still have to share this
with some one though!
After 3.5 years, I have my hull setting on wheels.
Yup! It's a milestone!!
My wings are 95% and tail empenages are ready to attach. I have actually placed
but not truly located the Horizonal Satbilizer. Looks like an airplane!
Shew! Still more to do. I hope I see an engine under my christmas tree thie year!!!!!
I am going to attatche and go through the fitment process of the wings and tail
components now while as mentioning before, "Asking Santa for my engine!"
I also have to decide my panel configutration. Suggestions?
If some of you wish, send me a picture of what you are doing with your panels.
I could help me decide.

That will work. As already posted you can run the fuel line from the wing tanks
into the bottom inlet that you show blocked off. This will eliminate a T fitting.

One concern about a fuel inlet on the bottom of the fuselage tank: If the
valve (or check valve in a fuel pump) leaks a little bit, all the fuel in
the fuselage tank will try to drain back into the wing tanks. With the
inlet in the top of the fuselage tank, only the small amount of fuel in the
line will leak back. This is the reason I felt it necessary to relocate the
inlet to the top of my tank.

lots of clouds on the way home. I have always wanted to fly amongst the clouds
and I finally got the chance. All of my training was on clear days and this
was a new experience for me at 8,000 feet.

Here's one for our aeronautical engineers to ponder: While
staring at my ailerons, wondering if they were going to flutter if ever
I get this bird finished, a thought struck me.
Ailerons flutter because they are moving back and forth very fast.
They move back and forth very fast because they are light, and because
they have no mass balancing them on the other side of the hinge.
It then struck me that, to add inertial mass doesn't necessarily mean
putting a weight on an arm out front, or adding a flange so you can put
weight in front of the hinge.
AHA! EUREKA! ZOUNDS! How about placing a mass, not necessarily equal to
the weight of the aileron, on the pushrod itself? Mass is used to create
inertia, and inertia doesn't care which way it's being made to
reluctantly move. The aileron can't move very fast up and down if the
pushrod doesn't want to move very fast backward and forward. There's no
additional force needed to move the aileron, and if the weight is on the
pushrod, it's inside, out of the airstream, where the wind (and
supercritical observers)can't find it. I see a tubular lead weight on
the pushrod, threaded, to snug up against the locknut at the bellcrank
end of the pushrod.
Whaddayathink?

I'm not saying that would or wouldn't work. Mainly because it has been a LONG time
since I took physics. But if it would work wouldn't weights attached to the
cables do the same thing? And since the cable run inside the fuselage you wouldn't
have to put the weight way out in the wing you could attach it to cable
inside the fuselage.

I don't think it would work. You need to increase the inertia of the part
subject to flutter.
In other words, the ailerons mass needs to go up by *rigidly* attaching a
weight to it.
Attaching the aileron to a brick wall won't help. Making it a brick wall
will, but unfortunately, it will mess with your CG... :-)

Jerry-
After a day to get everyone's input and think about it, I figure the way
to plumb this puppy is in the attachment.
I obviously don't (Or didn't) know jack about fluid dynamics, but I
guess all you have to do is really think about it.
The first logical assumption is that it's easier on the pump to drop the
fuel in from the top rather than push it in from the bottom. Factor the
strain pushing fuel up an extra 2' versus squirting it in from the side,
along with the additional line under pressure (Which is a potential failure
mode) and the strain on the pump is about equal, while the potential for
pressurized failure is lessened.
Your HD/HDS instructions came through fine. Eat your hearts out, XL
people!

Without conjecturing on whether it would work regarding flutter, I
would be very concerned about that much added weight causing metal
fatigue in the pushrod tube, especially the threaded portion and rod
ends. Any added weight on the pushrod tubes would be bouncing up
and down putting bending forces on the tubes. JMHO. Thanks for
sharing the idea.

Unfortunately, your first logical assumption would be wrong. :)
Overall, the pump will be working harder pumping in to the top of the
tank than it will pumping it in to the bottom. The back pressure on
the pump depends entirely on the height of fuel above the pump, not on
how many gallons are sitting above the pump. The pressure two feet
below the surface in a 500 gallon tank is the same as two feet below
the surface in a five gallon tank. Pumping in at the top, height of
the fuel will always be the height to the top of the tank so the
pressure will always be at its maximum. Pumping in at the bottom, the
pressure will start out low and increase as the fuel level in the tank
increases. But this is no big deal, just use a pump that will deliver
more pressure than the maximum it will see in this application.
The one advantage to pumping in to the top is that you won't need a
check valve to prevent the fuel from draining back to the wing tank

My original rubber spacers for the gear were opened large heater hose.
It didn't work for me. Perhaps I was over torquing the nuts. Roger said to
just tighten it to "firm"..
I prolly don't know what firm is.

I sliced open large diameter auto heater hose and made landing gear
spacers, for top and bottom of gear.
They have been in place a couple of years and no signs of
deterioration.

Hey list,
I don't talk much and lately haven't been reading much. I still have to share this
with some one though!
After 3.5 years, I have my hull setting on wheels.
Yup! It's a milestone!!
My wings are 95% and tail empenages are ready to attach. I have actually placed
but not truly located the Horizonal Satbilizer. Looks like an airplane!
Shew! Still more to do. I hope I see an engine under my christmas tree thie year!!!!!
I am going to attatche and go through the fitment process of the wings and tail
components now while as mentioning before, "Asking Santa for my engine!"
I also have to decide my panel configutration. Suggestions?
If some of you wish, send me a picture of what you are doing with your panels.
I could help me decide.
