Subject: | Becker Transponder/Dynon Combo |
This posted on the 701 list also but I could get good information here too.
Ive visited this subject before but still have not purchased a Transponder yet.
Now it's holding me up and I need to finish my Panel. I have no panel space for
the standard length instruments (6.0 x 2..0 approx), so I'm looking at getting
a Becker because of its square shape (2.4 x 2.4).
My main concern would be hooking it to my Dynon for altitude encoding. Dynon assures
me that the worst case would be that I need their altitude encoder converter,
not too expensive.
So
1. I'm looking for any comments on Becker units, good or bad.
2. Anyone have a Dynon/becker combo.
3. Any comments on S mode requirements. They will be mandatory as I understand
it in 2009 or 2010. The A and C mode Becker is about $1800 and the S mode is
about $2400.
I'm not concerned about the price. I'm ready to bite the bullet on that. I just
wanna get this thing finished and Fly.
Thanks Guys .Geoff

That's better than the Garmin price: the GTX327 is about $2000, the GTX330
is about $4500. Are you in Europe? I'm not aware of any move toward
mandatory mode S outside of there. I went ahead and put a GTX330 in my
airplane, but that was more for the traffic display on the GNS430W than
anything else.

Is it just me, or is having the gascolator hanging down in the channel below
the fuselage right below my knees not a wierd location? By is it not up on
the firewall like on most planes? It is not the low point of the fuel
system anyway (the tank drains are).
.....
I just couldn't put it down there hanging out under the fuselage. Mine is
in the traditional place on the right side of the firewall forward of the
firewall. It is in a local low point of the LE tank only fuel system. The
sumps on the tanks are the other low points. My system is similar to the
Czech Aircraft Works fuel system design with the fuel selector on the center
console as a local high point in the system.

Patrick, I don't have a clue if the system I have is ethanol safe. That's why the
stuff worries me so much. Can the system be made safe? Of course it can but
there are just so many things other than just the fuel lines I'm not willing
to take the chance and I certainly don't what to test every single item in the
fuel system.
This thread alone has had people with VDO sender seals failing and people that
have had fuel caps that are giving them problems.

Subject: | Rotax Engine Mount for 601 For Sale |
I have a Rotax Engine Mount for sale for a Zenith 601. I purchased a barely started
601HDS kit a couple of years ago and this engine mount came with it. I am
going with a Corvair so I have no use for it. I'll sell it to the highest bidder.
If no one here is interested I'll post it on eBay.
You can view pictures at http://webpages.charter.net/tnchapterg/MotorMount.htm. If you're interested you can email me at rwhitt3-at-hotmail.com. You will have to change the -at- to @ for the proper email address.

5 years and 11 months from the time I started the construction of what will become
N601WR I fit the last piece of the fuselage, the cowling. While they are all
attached the airframe is pretty much complete.
That's working pretty much weekends only and taking pretty much two, one year breaks.

Well done Gig!
With just 90% to go you should be flying in no time. I plan to fly to the Zenith
open house on September 20th. If you are not finished by then and want a ride
in mine you are welcome to some right-seat time.
I like the two-piece nose-bowl. Good work,

Great job Gig! It looks like you and I are at the same stage of construction because
your plane looks just like mine. I can already smell the 100LL burning.

Nice. Now comes the other 90% of the work...systems, panel, interior,
paint... Still, it's got to be a great feeling to reach that milestone.
