Just wanted to let y'all (yes I'm from Texas) know that I'll be departing (driving unfortunately) from Dallas area on Friday, hopefully in time to attend the dinner on Friday night. And should be departing MO 1PM or 2PM on Saturday. I'm a little flexible with times so shoot me a message if you're interested in heading up there. I should be in a truck so should also have some capacity for any goodies you may pick up. Let me know. -------- One Rivet at a Time! In my 601 I used 'The Insulator' (http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/insulator.php) and it seems to work well. John Davis 601 XL - Waiting for final inspection... List: The plane is finally in the paint shop, hopefully it will soon be in the air. Now that my garage, living room, basement workshop and family room are almost clear of parts I find that I have many items left that I did not use so I am putting them up for sale. I found that when you get parts from Zenith, Zenair and Zenair Europe there are overlaps in what each supplies. I am selling the parts for about 2/3 of the Zenith or Aircraft Spruce price, shipping will be extra. Contact me off list if you are interested in any of this stuff. I bought a carpet runner made to go down the center of minivans. I cut it up into pieces that fit the floor in front of each seat and a piece that fits the heel support. I fastened the pieces with snaps. The male snaps are riveted to the floor and the female snaps are crimped on the carpet. The runner has a light rubber backing with a low pile carpet. The carpet doesn't unravel when you cut it. Ken -------- 601 XL / Corvair Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 3665#203665

Gig, No I didn't weigh them. But since you asked, I went to the plane and weighed them. The grand total is 17.5 ounces. This includes the carpet and 24 female snaps. Add about another 0.5 ounces for the male snaps in the plane. Ken -------- 601 XL / Corvair Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 3675#203675

Hi Joe, I recently went thru the soundproofing process using the "fireproof foam" from Aircraft Spruce. Not a difficult job. My Journal Section 12 in October covers the experience rather well and the test that followed. I am very satisfied having done this, as it did quiet the plane considerably. Hit the link below and spool down to Oct 27 - 28 and you'll see a page or so of how I did it. www.macsmachine.com/html/journal12.htm Larry McFarland 601HDS at www.macsmachine.com Joe wrote: > the only thing i have seen on the above was in the june 07 issue of > kit planes. > they used foam rubber. does any one have any sugestions . > * > *

Hi Ken, I'd suggest burning a bit of it first. Some of these will burn intensely or give off poisonous fumes and some will not support a flame. Should be fire resistant if you ever "plan to have" a fire in the plane. For those of you fortunate to live near an aircraft manufacturing plant, consider contacting them about buying their interior scraps and leftovers. When I was working for Learjet, I was able to obtain $400/ yard carpet and $600 leather for $50 a bag (1982 prices). Each shipset bag contained enough matching leftovers from a Lear 35 or 45 to re-do 2 or 3 four place general aviation aircraft. It was all treated with flame retardant to FAR specs. -------- do not archive Regards, Bob Tezyk N78QT - 601XL QB/ Jab3300 Working on Horizontal Stabilizer http://neo.datamatrix.com/eaglesnestestates/index.php?option=com_rsgallery2&Itemid=32&catid=23 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p 3726#203726

Gig, I used automotive trunk liner. It's very light weight carpet. I tested it for flammability. I had to hold it directly in the flame of my gas stove before it would light. When it did it smoldered more than burned and didn't give off much smoke, but did burn. I filled in the areas around the heel support with sound proofing mat from ACS, and then put the trunk liner over that, giving the floor a level appearance. You get this stuff at most autoparts stores. Dan Gig Giacona wrote: > Joe post about insulation made me think of a question I've been meaning to ask. Subject: Heading to the Open Hangar from Dallas 9/19-9/20 Open
Seats Mherder, I live about 50 miles north of Dallas (Van Alstyne) and plan to drive to the open hangar as well. Originally I was going to fly my Cessna 150 like last year but I'm going in for knee surgery in the morning and don't think I'll be up to flying that far so soon. Hope to see you there if I can make the trip. And should be departing MO 1PM or 2PM on Saturday. I'm a little flexible with times so shoot me a message if you're interested in heading up there. I should be in a truck so should also have some capacity for any goodies you may pick up. Let me know. -------- One Rivet at a Time!
