Relatively few Velcro strips on the carpet. The carpet is thin, light, rubber-backed, indoor/outdoor, cheap and very nice. The same carpet was used on the floor, side walls, and baggage shelf. The upholstery is slip covers over the foam cushions. The (expensive) foam and upholstery material are fireproof. John Goodings, C-FGPJ, CH601HD with R912S, Carp/Ottawa/Toronto.

I did this recently and just used Velcro. It allows the Upholstery to be easily removed to get behind the seats and have full access to the center console. It also make it easier for cleaning .... Jeff Davidson CH601-HD/3300A on the second 90 percent of building ....

Drawing 6-G-1 shows that the Nose Gear Strut is capped with a welded 1/8" plate of 4130 steel (see picture). The nose gear strut in my kit has a plastic top (see picture). Anybody have the same thing? If so, how did you attach the 6G2-3 Stop Plate? Pat, You are among the lucky fortunate! You have a new kit that no longer uses the top plate as a bearing surface. The top just floats up and down thru the opening. The plastic cap keeps dirt and loose parts from falling in. It is wonderful to not have the issue with the 'old' style where you prayed that the top bearing and bottom bearing came to rest at the same time! I contacted Zenith on this same thing and they said this is the new style that has the bottom bearing and welded stops on the strut to take the place of the top stop. David Coberly 601XL / Corvair (still a ways off )

Ian: I used 3M Super 77 (just a little, this is powerful stuff) to attach the soundproofing, upholstery and carpet. I used velcro for the seats and seat backs. Plane hasn't flown yet so not sure how durable it all is. On my last kit the supplier recommended clear silicone for all attachments (including some Al-Al joints). That stuff really held. Same strut here. I am about to call Zenith in the next few days to inquire about the same issue. Guess I don't need to now. ----- Original Message ---- From: "Davcoberly@wmconnect.com" <Davcoberly@wmconnect.com> Sent: Saturday, September 13, 2008 1:20:19 PM Subject: Re: Zenith-List: XL Nose Gear Strut: 4130 vs Plastic ??? All- Since there's absolutely nothing in the achives, I've decided to post the following: To smooth out the top skin/front hoop, hit the edge with a body dolly, not the hammer. Pictures attached. Good building! Bill Naumuk Townville, Pa. HDS 601MG/Corvair 95%

So, I didn't get to fly - didn't expect to - but I did get to sit in the 650 today. I'll be upgrading my plans next week. I love the new canopy, besides being a safety feature, it make entry and exit much easier. I have plenty of headroom. It just feels much more solid. I can easily fit my legs under the panel, which was an issue previously. That may have to do with weight loss, but it seems like there is a bit more leg room. I'm not wild about the dual sticks as my legs interfere with full aileron deflection. in fact I'll probably go with a single straight center stick (not the Y). This plane is absolutely loaded. Standard 6 pack + Aspen EFIS, Dyson D10 engine monitor, Garmin 530, 2 axis Tru-trak autopilot. Very nice panel layout. Leather interior. Dual breaks. The interior was much nicer than any other LSA I've seen, I've seen a bunch of them at S&F. Kudos to AMD for fit and finish. Ron

Its on the far left hand side of the panel. It's a round 2 1/2" (?) facia. Bill, why are you referring to yourself in the third person (again)? Why not just say give /us/ a call?
