Mines the same way. I called Caleb and he said the upper stop is no longer
required.

Subject: | XL - Rear Top Skin & 650 Canopy ? |
I'm looking at 6-B-21, thinking about the Top Skins, and wondering how far I can
proceed with what I have on hand given that I would like to go with the 650
canopy on my XL.
My fuselage is still in clecos, but is otherwise complete except for the top skins
and canopy.
Has anyone else who is at this same stage got any advice or heard anything from
Zenith?
Thanks,
- Pat

Pat,
If you look at the differences of the 650 vs 601 you see they changed the angle
of 6B16 3 to accomodate the canopy latch bearing. So if you intend to go with
the new canopy and latch it would be much easier to make the changes now. Note
also 6B16 4 the longeron doubler is wider to accomodate the latch. Note also
6B16-3 does not go all the way to the longeron to allow room for the bearing
plate. I would leave the top skin off until you resolve what you want to do. Look
at 65-C-1 on the ZAC website and also at ZODIAC CH 650: "Summary of changes
from the Zodiac CH601 XL 4th edition". I am in the process of modifing mine
but it would be MUCH easier if I didn't have it all done.
