Kevin My Dad did the same thing for the pump house but he used two 100 watt bulb wired in series. They were dim but they still generated enough heat to keep the pump from freezing and they burned for years and years without being replaced. Speaking of 100 watt light bulbs.. I have a large supply of them in my hangar. I ve been selling these on eBay and I still have more to offer. Most went to chicken farmers.......... Instead of the $5.95/4 that people were offering I ll give them to you guys if you need them. All I ask is that you pay shipping/handling.... Yep, there free ... just pay for a box and shipping costs. 100 watt bulbs are on the extinct list. Even hardware store dont sell too many of them..... I think he's keen on doing Corvairs for the bigger airframes, 601XL etc, just it wasnt ideal in the 701. > Ralph in NZ I was aware that John had re-powered and that is the reason for most of my R&D into lightening the Corvair. Johns Corvair was a very early iteration of the conversion by today's standards. So far I think I have reduced the Corvairs weight by at least 20 pounds. My next engine will be assembled with all of the latest weight saving measures and we will run it on a scale. The weight of a running engine will be more useful information(I think). The short block should be complete by the end of the week. The efficiency of the combo is affected by many things and because I know very little about Johns airplane I can not comment. I have not heard any performance figures for the 701/Corvair combos. I do know that the airplane William, Gus & Sandy built flew and I am under the impression they were not disappointed in its performance. It would be nice to have the performance data on both airplanes to compare. I plan to track and post all of our data on our 701/Corvair combo as we progress. There is always room for improvements. :) -------- Brady McCormick Poulsbo, WA www.magnificentmachine.com Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=210533#210533
