Now I just have to decide if I want to spend that much and redesign my panel.

Hi Gig,
I just did a little specification comparison and decided I will go
with the 496.
First the 696 is too big for my panel the way it is currently laid
out. I can barely fit the 496 in the same stack with my NAV/COMM and
key switch now. Perhaps if I had really wanted a huge GPS display
instead of two large Dynon displays this would be different.
I also was put off by the backup battery choice. The 496 uses a
Lithium ion battery with a 15 hour use specified while the 696 uses
Nickel good for only a couple of hours.
If I live long enough to do all this over again, I think I would opt
for a Blue Mountain combined GPS/EFIS/EMS approach.

Hello Listers
-
I am selling off my Zodiac plans and partially completed tail kit.- Altog
ether there is about $1500-1700 worth of stuff (please email off list for d
etails).- It will go on Ebay soon but I thought I would offer it to the l
isters first.- I will happily take the first offer of $600 for complete 6
01 plans (both Speedwing and XL) and a partially completed tail kit.- THI
S IS FOR PICKUP ONLY in Oro Valley, Arizona (NW of Tucson) - I will not att
emt to ship this stuff.- The tail kit was purchased for a Speed Wing proj
ect and thus does not have pre-drilled holes.- I have upgraded all of the
parts that were "beefed up" for the XL design (such as increased thickness
for the main horizontal tail spar) , so you could truly use these parts on
an HD, SW, or XL.- I find it a little distressing that Zenith maintains
that the tails are the same, when an examination of the plans shows that th
ey are very similar but have some important differences.- The rudder was
completed at a Silver Sky Aviation (Phoenix) workshop and I have started o
n the horizontal tail, building to the XL configuration.- I also have a b
unch of clecos, tools, a quart of Cortec primer, and lots of other stuff.
- When you come to pick up the plans & parts we can discuss a package dea
l.- There's no better, faster or cheaper way to launch your project!- P
lease contact ahinsdale@yahoo.com off list if you are interested.
-
Thank You

Wade, when I plumed my XL fuel system years ago, I sent in a bunch of photos that
should still be on a site call "601.org" if I'm not mistaken. Best of Luck,

Wade,
I followed the print, pretty much, also, and have had no issues so far in 42+ flight
hours. This only thing I did was to extend the kit supplied Andiar fuel
valve to the floor using the Andair extension rod. This got rid of the extra
up-loop in the system. This was just a personal preference and not based on
any known problem with the way the print states.
If you have searched the archives, then you have seen that people on the board
are all over the map on this topic. Some opinions were even un-wise, and in one
case, at least the builder fessed up to a mistake he made so we all could benefit
from it. You will still have to search your own soul to see what you think
makes the most sense in your case.
In full agreement with the KISS principal,
