Wade, I gave you the wrong site: it's CH601.org.? I just brought it up and a bunch
of my fuel system photos are there. I used metal lines and a fuel valve to
remote the control. With dual sticks the standard ZAC fuel valves were unusable.

I will probably end up with the 496 as well but playing with my panel mock-up I
think the way things would have to go is the 696 in the center of the panel where
a radio stack would normally be and the Comm and Xponder side by side under
the Dynon.
One thing I like about the 696 is that you can have the faux-HSI up at the same
time as the map. Since I'm using a single Dynon 180 I'd like to be able to keep
the engine instruments all the time and not have to have them only pop-up on
alert when I have the Dynon's HSI up.
The Blue Mountain is nice but I really like the idea of the Garmin for a GPS. Does
the BM have XM-WX?

I wouldn't say unusable. Though I did have to replace one of the inputs (right
I think) with banjo connector.

Hello group ,thanks for all the good information I received on the fuel
systems .I have a problem believing the fuel will run uphill from the
tank outlets to the fuel valve located on the console .I should not
dispute the plans as they have been good so far .Is this an illusion or
will the fuel flow from the lower level to the higher level .I know I
saw a post awhile back where the builder did not want the fuel to be
pressurized inside the plane .I like the idea of the fuel pumps being
located at the tank outlets as suggested by Charles ,any comments on
this . Thanks

Hi Gig,
I'm not sure about the Blue Mountain and XM weather. When I was
looking at their stuff I thought I didn't want the weather
anyway. After discussion at my latest EAA chapter meeting, I am
convinced I really do want the weather. I reviewed a life time of
flying problems and discovered each one was weather related.
My current plan (already partly installed) is to use dual Dynon large
displays with Garmin 496 and SL-30 in the middle. The standard
display configuration might be EFIS plus real HSI on the left Dynon
screen, map and terrain (and weather?) on the GPS, and engine with
optional EFIS on the right side for my wife and copilot.
I forgot to mention, the real show stopper for the Blue Mountain
solution was the large display size. I could fit one of them in my
panel but not two. With a panel the size of a Zodiac, the Blue
Mountain wants to be the only large display.
Best regards,
Paul

Wade,
I just did not want fuel in the cabin under pressure.? Thus, the dual fuel pumps
on the engine side of the firewall.? Since this is not a gravity system, the
fuel doesn't have to "run" up hill to the fuel selector. It is "pulled" there
by the suction from the pump.? I have had no problem with fuel flow using this
system.

I dont recall ever seeing a low wing (Piper) with fuel under pressure.
Just an engine driven pump (suck) with a boost pump (electric) suck..
Geeze, now I m thinking of high school.....

Subject: | Re: Fuel Systems |
Hi Wade,
I too was a little worried about the fuel going up hill, so I did a
little test.
I hooked up a couple of feet of fuel line and powered an electric
fuel pump (Facet). The fuel was in a container a couple of feet
below the pump, and it had no problem priming itself and pumping away..
I don't have any pressure in the fuel line that goes through the
cabin. The electric and engine pumps are both in the engine
compartment. That means a break in the fuel line integrity will
result in air going to the engine instead of fuel but no big puddle
of fuel in the cabin.
I intend to operate primarily with avgas rather than auto fuel, so I
am not concerned with vapor lock in the fuel line. Even if there is
some vapor, the test shows I can still pump fuel to the engine. With
the wing tanks mostly above the cabin floor the only high points in
the whole fuel system are the loop going to the tank selector and the
engine itself. I would guess the total height in the worst variation
of fuel tank level is only a few inches from inlet to final destination.
Best regards,
Paul
