I put mine in the back of the baggage compartment. This way it its
easy to get to and I have the temperature sensor connected to the
outside. One item you need to keep in mine if you actually put baggage
in there make sure nothing with a strong magnet, like an electric razor
ends up on your remote compass.

Hey Tony Graziano,
I am flying into Houston County airport (M93 McKinnon) Saturday for breakfast Saturday
Nov 8th if weather permits.
We should be leaving SYI by 7:30 and arriving at M93 around 8:30.
The place of eating is walking distance from the airport and folks part at the
west end turn around as close to the grass as possible. It is an Inn if I remember
correctly!
I have only been there once but thought some good bacon and eggs would be nice
for a point of destination.
I will be flying in with a Cherokee 140 rental.

Unlike the XL, the HDS doesn't have a hatch near the tail.
Everything's all buttoned up and I'm not going to tear the fuse top
skins off or try crawling back to the tail.
One of the listers who has 200+ hours on his system installed his
unit behind the passenger seat. The tray I built for the passenger side
is occupied with the battery and ELT. At the same time I built the
passenger side tray I built one for the pilot's side, originally
intending to mount a tool box on it. I decided against it and tore it
off, because the only thing gaining weight faster than I am is my
project. Pictures attached for the guy from France who wanted to see
some installations.
Luckily, I haven't visited the scrap yard recently so my pilot's
side tray was still around. I just stuck it in position for the picture-
I'll cut it down to fit the compass unit.
One question for all D-100 owners- how did you determine if the base
unit and the compass are mounted within plus or minus 1 degree of each
other? I assume this is in the roll axis.

I did the same. Assuming that the plane is built to specs the panel and the Dynon
box will be level when installed.
The mount I built for rear fuselage installation had to correct for the 3 degree
tilt of that area.

Another lister thought that the two bottom inputs were to accomodate
locker tanks. I don't think that's valid, because both would still be
feeding from the bottom.
I thought I had things figured out a couple of months ago after an
earlier posting, but William Wynne stopped me cold in my tracks on two
issues, the header routing and a firewall mounted Facet boost pump from the
header
That's why I wonder whether my tank is built correctly for my
configuration. Locker tanks with individual manual valves gravity fed to a
console mounted Facet which pushes fuel into the header. This is Jeff
Small's setup, which has around 500 hours on it. I can't see anything wrong
to this point, and the manual valves will prevent backwash to the wing
tanks.
As far as the firewall Facet boost pump, WW says he's "Never seen
anything but a gravity feed system from a header". Both Larry Mac and Jeff
have booster Facets, so this is a non-issue.
I guess I'll just have to wait to hear from Zenith.

Bill (and others interested):
I meant to suggest that the second inlet was to accommodate wing locker
tanks, if those were installed. I think putting the second inlet on the
bottom of the tank was a mistake in design, which was later rectified. As I
said, I had a welder move the second inlet on my tank to the top.
As for the firewall-mounted Facet boost pump, it goes with installation of
the Stratus Subaru which has dual Bing carbs on top of the engine, too high
for gravity feed. I hope this clears things up a little.

We have only the bottom outlet to gascolator + near top &
bottom outlets which were originally designed for a sight gauge, we
blanked the bottom, feed in via top & use an electrical gauge. I note
you have the Zenith supplied taper tap ours was very tight to operate,
leaked & eventually seized, we used a ball type fuel valve from a motor
racing supplier very easy to turn. Another builder at our airfield with
a HDS feeds his in via the bottom if you do this beware most facet pumps
have a uncalibrated leak to prevent overpressurisation to carb from
retained heat or from sun expanding the fuel and will drain into wing
tanks over time if not isolated also a leak in this pipe could leak into
cockpit

That's not the Zenith supplied shutoff- I got it from a supplier in
Philadelphia. It's meant to switch auxilliary tanks on a truck.
I'm trying to avoid going with an electrical fuel gage- the project
is on the heavy side as it is.

A few of you have written off list suggesting other suppliers... but no one has
come up with any numbers... These are the same caps as supplied on all post
2005 Zenith correct?
Can anyone tell me if it is 1/8 or 3/16 thick?

I can order one MS29513 Nitrile size up and one down, still save 60%, and have
MS quality rather than the Viton designed by Du Pont for diesel and scuba gear.
I have not seen my airplane for two weeks and probably won't see it again for another
two. Although I prepare the test flights and review the pilot reports
and flight data, I do more paperwork now than anything else. I did not want
my pilot to bring the seal to me since the airplane sits on the tarmac and it
is supposed to rain on and off for a few days, that is all I need is water getting
in the tank.
What do you 701 guys think about this idea:

I feel i have a chicken and egg situation...
How exactly do I drill the inside (the elevator) angle bracket to the horn doubler?
Do i un-cleko the skin, bend it as little as possible and drill it from
the inside? Do i mark it as best i can while it's still together (again bending
the skin as little as possible) and take it out and drill it? and then...what
do i do when it's time to rivet??
not only can't i figure this out, but i can't find a solution online..which makes
me pretty much feel like i wouldn't recognize a chicken or egg if i had to
create a timeline ;)

If you look at the manual on the disk (with all of the photos on it). Have a look
at section 6-T-3C page 3-6. After it is all together you remove the Elevator
Centre Channel.

I have one of the caps from my 2007 QBK lying in front of me. It looks just
like the picture in the Spruce catalog. With the o-ring removed and lying
"relaxed" on my desk the ID measures about 2.258 inches on my cheap plastic
dial caliper (plus or minus a few Angstroms). The diameter of the bottom of
the groove in the gray plastic cap is 2.264 inches. The diameter of the
actual circular cross section of the rubber is 0.114 inches. With the o-ring
in the cap the OD is 2.484 inches. That is a little off as 0.114 + 0.114 +
2.264 is 2.492, a 0.32% difference from 2.484.
If you need any different measurements just let me know. If you want more
accuracy (or maybe just significant digits) I can dig out my digital
caliper.
