Don't know 601s but I replaced the stock pads for my 701 with pads cut from steel belted tire. They are lasting very well. A little difficult to cut the steel belts but it's worth the effort. They are supposed to replace the cut rubber heater hose pieces in the fuselage channel and clamp around the main landing gear mounts. Are they worth the money and seem like a good deal? However, fear not--- we Americans, having done it twice before, can still remember how to liberate Europe. But the question is, will we, or will Europe have to free itself next time, armed with a bag of high quality hash, a bottle of Pilsener, and a pack of Galoises? I remember as a kid telling my uncle I was taking French in school, and he told me he knew all the French an American needed to know: "Ou sont les Allemagnes?" OK. let the flames (flambeaux) begin! On second thought, let me add a little gasoline--The only people ever brought to this country against their will were the Africans. So how come there's more Europeans here than black people? And now, back to the original question. I wouldn't bother with a handgun among the survival supplies. You can get a very nifty collapsible .22 - .410 over-and-under survival rifle (Remington, I think) for a couple of hundred bucks, which weighs very little, and is good out to 100 yards. USA crime rate highest in the world? Not at all. If you just count murders, we are only number 24, Mexico is #6, and guns are ILLIGAL in Mexico.....Hmmm. My guess is, because of our legal and insurance system, crimes are more likely to be reported to the authorities here (hence the higher crime rate) then in other countries were you can't expect to capture the criminals, let alone sue them or collect insurance money. Note that the city on the top of that list also has the strictest gun control laws in the country and probably the most socialist city government. Go figure. Also, The demographics of many American cities are very different than most European and Canadian cities. And you forgot the "do not archive". For those who would rather not read this kind of post, it's usually very simple to create a filter in your email program to prevent posts with certain subject lines from being displayed. It's even easier if the poster would put a O.T. (for Off Topic) in the subject line. Of course, if you are receiving the list digest, you are SOL. Just a reminder, please trim unnecessary quotations from your replies. The people receiving the list digest are forced to scan through all this crap to get to the stuff they actually want to read. And add a "do not archive" to these off topic posts. Go figure. I did not have the rifle then , but now I know why my dad recommended one inn the plane, I thought that was one of the bigget snakes I had ever seen, until last week we were in the south Everglades forest and the ranger pointed out a 15 ft. salt water croc, and a mud slide into the water of what he recorded as a 20 ft. python. Holy #!%#@!%. Welcome to the outback mates! the heck with Australia! I will stick to the mini 14. By the way, I left the airport with the guys as the guys were still yelling " shoo, shoo big snake! Hello group ,I am need of some electrical help . I have a flap motor from a Bonanza . I am using a DPDT momentary toggle switch all works great for reversing the polarity .When I installed the limit switches all works great until the limit switch was activated ,travel stops as it should .When I activate the toggle switch for reverse action nothing happens due to the open circuit of the limit switch .It works as it should if I just bring it close to the limit switch without tripping it then reverse action works .Is this typical or should reverse action work with the limit switch tripped . Thanks Wade Jones South Texas 601XL Franklin 0-235

I know you don't have the Zenith flap motor. But did you follow the wiring diagram on page 6B20 of the plans? You need four wires between the flap motor and the DPDT (or some diodes) to make it work. -- Craig From: owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of wade jones Sent: Tuesday, December 09, 2008 3:02 PM Subject: Zenith-List: Flap limit switch Hello group ,I am need of some electrical help . (was :Non building related Question - Hand guns) Roger, you would love it down here, I landed in everglades city and saw a few pilots makin a fuss out in the tie down area and then one guy starts runnin and screamin like a girl, I go over to check it out and there was a 10 foot, yep easily 10 ft, python pissed as hell under an old plane and the guy couldnt get in the aircraft cause the thing was under the plane on the right side by the step. Ok ,Craig & Jay I think you have helped me .I saw the diagram on 6B20. I had wired the switch using jumper leads as described by Tony Bingelis on page 309 of his sportplane construction techniques and only had two wires between the flap motor and switch .I guess I should remove the jumpers from the switch and run four wires as 6B20 shows . But did you follow the wiring diagram on page 6B20 of the plans? I have a flap motor from a Bonanza . I am using a DPDT momentary toggle switch all works great for reversing the polarity .When I installed the limit switches all works great until the limit switch was activated ,travel stops as it should .When I activate the toggle switch for reverse action nothing happens due to the open circuit of the limit switch .It works as it should if I just bring it close to the limit switch without tripping it then reverse action works .Is this typical or should reverse action work with the limit switch tripped . You have something wired wrong, each limit switch should interrupt motion in one direction only. Look carefully at the circuit shown on page 6-B-20 of the plans. There should be two wires leading to each side of the motor, one leading to the limit switch and one leading directly back to the DPDT switch. I think that is most likely where the error is. I truly appreciate that all of us maintain strong personal perspectives on a variety of powerful subjects. That we can express them to each other and not resort to fisticuffs is a measure of our respect for each other. The only thing is, others, members and non, are silenced by conversations so strong in tone that they quietly retreat to other sites, not realizing that we are all proud Zenith owners and more importantly, pilots, that is first and foremost why we get together. Howdy all; So I guess the question is, have you guys met up at sun and fun before. If so, is there a special meeting place, or do ya just walk around with a "follow me to Matronics" sign on your back? I think it would be fun to arrange a time and place to meet up, any ideas, or is December to early to plan these things? Roger

you are missing the point. the list is no longer just an info exchange, but of people who have the same desires and goals of building an aircraft and that have built a relationship with each other, through that common thread. We each know that we can ask questioins about building, issues that are not about building, support each other, especially in tough times, and know that in the end we have the support of other builders. We have celabrated people's achievements, prayed for peoples losses, stated opinions not so agreeable to each other. In the end we are around this campfire, telling stories, praying for the future, dreaming about things to come and plans that hopefully will be fullfilled. I may not agree with some opinions, but there is no For me... its all good. Wade you will also have to reverse the way the drawing shows because unless they revised the DPDT switch diagram it was backwards. Jeff I know you don=99t have the Zenith flap motor. But did you follow the wiring diagram on page 6B20 of the plans? You need four wires between the flap mo tor and the DPDT (or some diodes) to make it work. -- Craig **************Make your life easier with all your friends, email, and favorite sites in one place.
