I like to get more personal, so I called and talked to someone there...can't remember who. They were very helpful and things went quickly and smoothly. Rick Do NOT archive Thanks for the tip. For guys like me who are not Chemical Engineers, what stuff on the Buckley Products website corresponds to the pink/green/blue foam that we are interested in...? From: "Gig Giacona" I posted the question because I'm quickly nearing that point and I have contacted the FSDO and they said they do it for free but other than the issue that they will do it when they get around to it there are some other drawbacks to them doing it. They highly recommended a guy who I spoke with and who has even created a website to help those being inspected. http://www.spava.com/DART.html On this website is the check list he uses. http://www.spava.com/AmateurBuilt.html He also, included in the $500 + mileage he charges, does a lot of the paperwork prior to coming down including the paperwork for the repairman's certificate. I've talked to two guys who he has inspected and they both gave him great reviews. The links above will be of interest to anyone who is has never had an inspection. -------- W.R. From: jaybannist@cs.com Gig, I don't mean to offend anyone in the FAA, but I have just heard too many stories about FSDO inspections to ignore them. I'm quite certain that not all FAA guys are like this, but in the cases I have heard about, the inspector was really intent on getting the paperwork right and then doing a "walk-around" inspection of the airplane.? That may make it easier to get that airworthiness certificate, but the certificate was a secondary goal for me.? I wanted a real in depth inspection, for my own peace of mind and the safety of my own hiney.? In my opinion, the more eyes the better, and the more critical the better. My DAR did a VERY thorough inspection, but I had other guys spot a thing or two that neither me nor my DAR caught. For my money, whatever it costs (within reason, of course) to get a thorough inspection is worth it. From: "Sabrina" I could not disagree more. Not only does the FAA thoroughly inspect your airplane, they review the aircrafts safety history with you, if you request such a review. One item on their Zodiac list was how to fly an open/missing canopy, another was the sensitive pitch, a third was how to handle an upside down landing in water. (Which may be what happened in the Netherlands.) Gig, Even if you hire a DAR, please schedule a review of the paperwork and flight test plan with the FAA. They are amazingly helpful and it is free. In the two weeks leading up to the first flight, I spent at least nine man hours with the FAA in preparation. I then spent at least eight hours over four days preparing my test pilot for the first flight. I dont think there was a scenario that was not covered (Juan, we even covered being shot at.) Today starts the second year of flights for N5886Q! Too bad it was -30F real, -51F wind chill.
