Well I've waited long enough, it's time to get on with the wings.
I have a few questions. The drawing calls for a 1 3/8" diameter tube for bending
the leading edge. I'm thinking of using the vacuum method, and this will likely
be either next weekend, or within a few weeks.
Does PVC pipe have adequate rigidity? Are 12 foot lengths commonly available?
If not PVC I'm concerned as to what I'm going to do with a 12 foot length of
steel pipe once I'm done. This is a scratch build, so please don't tell me they
      come pre-bent.

      Dan,

      Check out http://www.ch601.org/resources/Nose%20Skin/bending_a_nose_skin.htm.
I used this method, with my worktable as bending brake, and it worked great.

Good luck. Follow the directions on their site and you'll have no problems.

After trying to get help from the teenage children and trashing two pieces of .016"
due to total lack of interest on their part [Shocked] . I did something
close to this, but I cut mine over size by 3 inches and trimmed to fit after.
This allowed me to screw the boards to the trailing edge and not worry about
being square. This was for the stab and elevator and not the wing.
I would think it would work for the wing, but I have not been there yet.

      Yep,

There was a bit of controversy about this bird on the vansairforce.com forum. The
planes stated empty weight is 903lbs, so that gives him a 417 lb useful load.
He had to over-pitch the prop to keep the speed low. No wheel pants or fairings
either. With 2 FAA sized folks you can carry a little less than 13 gal
of fuel for an engine that burns about 6+ gal an hour You get all of the RV costs,
but none of the performance. Why anyone would do this is beyond me, but
hey it is experimental aviation. :D

      Jon

P.S. I would really like to see what that plane weighs when measured with some
      aircraft scales [Shocked]

      Hi Bill,

I just did a quick review of the RV-9A on Van's web site. It doesn't
even seem close to an LSA.

      Gross weight is around 1750,
Minimum engine 118 Hp gives 165 mph cruise (give or take)
      empty weight over 1000 lbs
      36 gallons of fuel.

Somebody is really stretching the point. Maybe they just were trying
to fit in at the LSA show.

      Jeff,
I'm not sure who you meant this post for but it doesn't answer the question I've
posted repeatedly, which is what is the distance between bulkheads? Obviously
you know, or you wouldn't be able to recommend 3/4" spacers for some combination
of prop and crush plate that you know about.
I thought there'd be enough corvair builders on this list using this spinner that
someone might know the dimension, but I'll try asking on the RV board.
      Thanks for your post anyway.
By the way I've posted a picture of the UHS spinner on my website at:

post a pic of one I did and you can see it isn't that hard to do. I like the
Van's front bulkhead much better than WW's because it makes the spinner rigid
and WW's can be moved from side to side but if you can't get one what's the
      point.

| Subject: | Re: Leaky Prosealed Tank |

A follow up to my leaky tanks post
Two of my 4 tanks leaked. One leaked on the front seam in 2 spots. The other
leaked around one of the threaded fittings. Rather than using a sloshing agent
      I tried the following.

The leak at the threaded fitting was right in a corner that I packed with proseal
mixed with a little bit of fiber glass. This was done on the outside of the
tank. There were lots of rivets shop ends poking out for the proseal to grap
      onto.

The other one was on the long straight seam. I bent up a U from 5052 aluminum
and after removing the rivets from the leaky area I wrapped the seam with this
U and drilled it to use the same rivet holes. Next I stuffed the U with proseal,
hammered it on with a mallet and set the rivets. I should know late tomorrow
      if this worked.

Here's a picture of the patch.

Hurray! Gig (William Giacona) came through for me. The distance is "approximately"

      to spare. Thank you Gig!

Your question you asked and I answered had nothing to do with distance
between bulkheads... you asked about the bolt pattern of the rear bulkhead and

that is what I was answering.
But if you simply use the numbers I gave you should be able to have come up
      with the distance.

Here is your post or was this someone else's it sometimes gets confusing

I also have Van's spinner FP-13 but the rear bulkhead bolt holes do not fit
WW hub and the front bulkhead would not fit Warp Drive prop at all. I
emailed WW numerous times inquiring about the front crashplate/bulkhead but he

would not reply. Can you post the bolt hole patterns and how you got the front

      bulkhead to work?

Is it PVC? Do you think PVC would work?

Dan, Ditto on what Larry said. I did the bending solo on top of my table. That's
one of the things I like about this design, one guy can do most of the work.

If you are going the vacuum route I would imagine rigidity and straightness of
the tube will be important. Also you will need to keep the tube aligned to the
      skin during the process.
