Subject: | CLEANING AND FILLING DENTS |
Well, hopefully the dents are not so big as to have a small
bucket full of putty. I was referring to small dents. If you wish, let's
call them dings. I think if you have big dents, it might call for some
new aluminum. I used scotch brite to scuff the area (no, I am not going
to tell you what color) and cleaned with lacquer thinner, then the glaze
or putty. Some of these are years old and you still cannot find them.
Hopefully, you never will!

Rick-
The question is, does the filler stay put? I've seen too many
projects where the filler cracks and comes loose over time.

Just a final word on this thread. Both the patches worked, so I'm finished with
the tanks until installation time. Thanks to those who responded.

mixed with a little bit of fiber glass. This was done on the outside of
the tank. There were lots of rivets shop ends poking out for the proseal to grap
onto.

and after removing the rivets from the leaky area I wrapped the seam with this
U and drilled it to use the same rivet holes. Next I stuffed the U with proseal,
hammered it on with a mallet and set the rivets. I should know late tomorrow
if this worked.

Rick-
I'm not talking about filling potholes.
I built my outboards 3 years ago and was so disappointed with my
tips I was ready to commit hari-kari. The gap between the aluminum
leading edge and the fiberglass tip is what I'm talking about. The
wing's in a cradle- took the picture laying on my side. The tips haven't
been riveted yet, so the gap might decrease.
No matter the severity- what filler's going to have the best chance
of staying put?
