List,
i have a 601XL with Facet pump mounted 3" above the bottom of the firewall ( engine
side ). it is on the passenger side opposite the exhaust pipe. On hot days
after flying the Facet pump will sometimes cavitate and not develop much pressure
( about 1/2 psi ). the Jabiru 3300 engine always starts quickly every time
and i have had no in flight fluctuations. i use it like the Piper Cherokee
boost pump on take off and landing.
we have 2 601 XL's on the field and we can tell who is running wheel pants and
who isn't. we calculate 5 to 7 MPH at same power settings. about 5 at 22" MP and
7 at 25".

Hello I built a 601 HDS with a EA81 Subaru. Have been flying it for over
5 years. I used to have the facet fuel pumps connected in parallel
mounted on the firewall. I use a pressure switch to warn of low fuel
pressure. On hot days I would see the pressure light come on at appox
1-2 psi. This would also happed when flying with less than full
throttle. Never had the engine quit but sure makes you nervous. Since
then I moved the pumps off the firewall and into the cabin. I know a lot
of you don't like fuel in the cabin area but it has been done for years.
I plumed it with hard lines and fittings. The system works much better.
With my Subaru I can routinely see 120 mph cruise at about 5 gph. With
the right conditions I have seen 130 mph verified with GPS average. I
have wheel pants and have never flown it without.

This is good stuff and I'm learning a lot. One missing piece is: anybody
using non aviation fuel with ethanol? The difference in vapor pressure is big.
Yeah, I know that alky is forbidden in aviation, but here if FL, its all
you can get except for 100LL.

Subject: | Free Zodiac Tail Kit - Pickup near Tucson, AZ |
Hello Listers=0A=0AI am abandoning my Zodiac project. I will give away a m
ostly unbuilt Zenair 601 tail kit to anyone who gives me $350 for my genuin
e Zenair 601 plans. Included are complete 601 HD/HDS and XL plans, an HD t
ail kit with XL structural upgrades, and some other stuff that I have accum
ulated while building. The tail kit was originally HD spec, and although Z
enith will tell you "all 601 tails are the same" they are NOT. Many XL par
ts are thicker aluminum and the elevator control horn structure in the XL i
s a complete 360. I identified each of these parts and purchased the XL upg
rades. If you want the HD-spec parts those are included as well. The rudd
er is finished, built at a Silver Sky Aviation workshop in Phoenix under th
e watchful eye of an experienced Zodiac builder and A&P mechanic. I starte
d drilling out the main spar but did not get very far when life intervened
and caused me to lose all my momentum and motivation to continue. =0A=0ANo
w please not this is all for PICKUP ONLY in Oro Valley, AZ, a suburb of Tuc
son on the NW side of town (toward Phoenix). Anyone wishing to take this o
ff my hands can also make me an offer on my almost new Kobalt (Lowe's) 8-ga
l air compressor, Zhipp air drill, and some other stuff I have lying around
. The tail kit box is about 16 by 24 by 100 inches (just over 8 feet).=0A
=0AFirst to email me off list gets it all for $350. We can arrange pickup
and payment most days but weekends are obviously best.=0A=0AEmail off list

Hi Bob,
The 87-octane in Illinois also has a mandated 10% ethanol and I use it
in my Stratus Subaru without any difficulty. If your floats, fuel
gaskets, O-rings and such that
are exposed to fuel are less than 5 years old, it's a good chance you'll
not have any trouble. The good thing is Ethanol refining operations in
Iowa and Illinois are
shutting down and declaring bankruptcy. Legislators are seeing the
error of their ways as it's not good policy and ethanol has the same
effect on people as does
asbestos. It's twice as bad on people as an old coal burning power
plant. When they ever get called down on it, EPA will kill it and
ethanol should disappear.
