      Bill,
I used a standard VDO tach on my Stratus engine. The tach lead goes to
the ground side of the ignition coil. I did have some problems with an
unstable reading at around 3000 RPMs. I tracked it down to a short (2
msec) pulse that sometimes came from the system. I used the attached
circuit to tame the problem. Been flying over a year with a steady
      reading tach.

      601 builders.

I have a CZEC built 601XL Rotax 921ULS motor mount that is for sale. It includes
everything except a couple of the bolts used for mounting.

If you are interested, I will sell it for $100.00 US, plus crating and shipping.
The mount was removed from a 2003 XL. I also have a couple of other parts
that would fit a Rotax 601XL.
