As time goes by, the *HD(S)* construction web sites are disappearing.
Most of the links in CH601.org and Zenair are dead.
Below are the ones I know are active, in no particular order.
Some are brief, some are thorough, but they all can be of help as a
reference.
The quality of pictures also varies a lot, from old analog cameras to high
resolution digital.
It's interesting how technology (imaging and avionics) changed in such a
short time.

It's been a while since I worked on my XL. Even longer since I updated my website. School has been keeping me busy. But I've been working on a research project that I am maintaining a wikisite for. It is web based and fairly easy to maintain. You don't have to know a lot of coding. You can get free ones. I use https://www.wikidot.com/ Anyone contemplating starting a site, may want to give it a look. I may move my XL content over to a wiki in the future (when I have time).

The Scrapbook add-on for the Mozilla Firefox browser lets you save a copy
of any website to your computer hard drive. If you're short on space, you
could download the files onto a CD or DVD. That is cheap insurance to
preserve what might prove to be an invaluable resource. You can specify the
depth that you want links saved. You just need to be careful of embedded
links to really big external sites.
A source that sometimes works for a disappeared site is a Google search for
something in the site. If the info is still in Google's cache, you can
access the data from the Cache directly from the search page. I've no idea
how long info stays in the Google's publicly accessible cache.

Nice thought, and good work.
The interesting thing is that the projects of the people on your
list that I recognise are scratch modified to incorporate many of the
features of later models or first-off ideas. You almost can't call them
601HD(S)s, but 625HDXLs!

It might be a worthwhile project to capture the sites that are remaining, and
place a copy on a website somewhere that will be there a while. Google
archived copies could be placed at the same location.
If something like this isn't done, the information will simply be lost.

If one still has the old links, archive.org might help to find
archived versions of old sites.
It worked very well for the old location of my (rarely updated) site
before the ISP name changed, but I had to have the exact URL to be
able to find it.
(e.g., for the dead link "http://web.ionsys.com/~pchapman/" I wasn't
able to find it searching just on "ionsys" and/or "pchapman").
So what other 601 or Zenith "community" websites are there?
Zenith Webring
http://www.webring.com/hub?ring=zenithbuilders
The Zenith webring hasn't been maintained or promoted for a long time
and only includes 15 entries. Presumably people could still add or
subtract themselves from the list but it is not really a current place to be.
Zenith builder pages
http://www.zenithair.com/bldr/bldr.htm
This used to have builder contact info (that one had to email in) but
I can't find it any more from that page.
Given the number of links on the page to zenith.aero I assume the
latter takes over that function??
CH601.org
Has some links. More of a traditional admin coded site, so it seems
one has to email in any changes to the 601 web site list the site has
links from.
zenith.aero
The slickest and most modern of the sites -- looks like it is
becoming the place to be?
(But I personally prefer the Matronics email lists still, over the
zenith.aero forums.)
Plenty of user updateable parts -- contact info, blogs, friends,
photo, video, a wall, etc.
zenair.org
Not sure what's on there - perhaps someone else can say.
One has to get an account from the admin, which is available when one
is a subscriber to the newsletter by Jon Croke.
A whole other topic is what free sites one might go to to post one's
own website, blog, videos etc, if one wants to go beyond the format
allowed by say zenith.aero.

Bill,
I don't see anything in ACS that closely resembles the ZAC inlet; and they are
$20 to $80.? The ZAC part is 6B20-4 and two of them cost $11.10.

Where in the heck did you get the drawing? I don't even have a "B"
section in my prints!
Out of curiosity, how many pages of prints did you get, and how many
pages in the builder's manual? I swear I didn't get a complete set of
either. Not that it really matters at this point.

Bill,
You weren't specific, so I have to assume that you are talking about an XL style
canopy on your HDS.? My XL drawings call out a Latch Casing P/N 1185K.? The
ZAC parts list for an XL canopy shows Non-Locking Latch Assembly P/N 6C4; and
Locking Latch Assembly P/N 6C4-1 Locking.

Like others on the list, I got mine from Van's. Great quality, complete
kit except for the rivets and gasket material. I ended up using a
little more than a foot of the supplied six feet of scat tubing, so be
sure to plan ahead if you're going that route.

Larry-
As in 6G-..., 6S-...? None. Leo's drawing was the first I ever saw
of a 6B-.
You cruise along through the manual and all of a sudden fall off the
edge of the earth! If it weren't for the old-timers on the list I would
have been dead in the water 2 years ago. I spend an easy 4 hours
researching for every hour I spend building.

Jay-
Yes, I'm converting from side to forward opening.
That's what threw me, too. I got the locking latch assembly, but all
it consists of is the handle. I also have the print reference to the
latch casing, but can't find a listing on the Zenith site. I have an
e-mail in to Zenith but probably should have called- now I won't find
out until Monday.

Bill,
You weren't specific, so I have to assume that you are talking about
an XL style canopy on your HDS. My XL drawings call out a Latch Casing
P/N 1185K. The ZAC parts list for an XL canopy shows Non-Locking Latch
Assembly P/N 6C4; and Locking Latch Assembly P/N 6C4-1 Locking.

Jay-
Thanks- you can navigate through the Zenith site better than I
can. Speaking of which- can you find the latch assemblies for the
canopy? I thought they came with the lock, but not so.

Bill,
I don't see anything in ACS that closely resembles the ZAC inlet;
and they are $20 to $80. The ZAC part is 6B20-4 and two of them cost
$11.10.

Can anyone provide the ACS part no. for the NACA cabin fresh air
scoops? You know, the ones that you mount over triangular holes in the
forward fuse side skins.
Thanks.

Bill,
I also fabricated some of the Zenith scoops. Zenith did not send the drawings
to builders. I got mine from the Zenith website. Zenith was good about posting
stuff to the website and not notifying builders
I debated about using the Van's scoops but decided not to because they are plastic
and I did not know how long they would last here in Arizona.
