The price of a DAR must depend on who it is. I've heard numbers like
$400 for an inspection, but mine cost me $90. Not exactly free, but not
very pricey, either. Of course, he lives right on the field where I
keep my plane, so that may have had something to do with it.

What date does the database show it was issued? It may haven't gotten lost in the

The DAR can charge pretty much whatever he thinks his/her services are wort
h.- $90 is a real bargain.- The norm is around $400.- Some FAA office
s will do the inspection (free) but some claim to not have the manpower.-
It was along time ago (1999) but then the Cleveland Office sent out an ins
pector to certify my RV, didn't charge anything and it only took about 2 we
eks to get an appointment.- I was about 75 miles or so from the Cleveland
       office at the time.

The guy who is going to do mine for $500. I know that is at the high end of the
spectrum but I've heard nothing but good things about him. He pre-does a bunch
of the paperwork that the applicant would have to do.

Also the FAA inspector who gave me his name and number told me that he would be
happy to come down and do it for free but there are some drawbacks.

He'd probably would be able to make it for a month after I try to set a date.

If there is any problem that is found that would cause him not be able to issue
the AW certificate and I could make the fix real quick he would end the inspection
and I would have to reschedule again once the problem was corrected.

Basically, at least in Arkansas, the FSDO doesn't want to be in the inspection
business. Don't get me wrong. They will do them and they will be nice guys but
they aren't as flexible as a DAR. I don't want to risk a multi-month delay once
I finish my plane and am wiling to pay not to.

      Guys,

Take a look at this website! Some guy put together an all electric plane
that actually looks like a winner! It cruises at around 155 and actually
stays in the air for more than an hour. The reason I'm sending this is
because I think the XL would be a perfect test bed for a project like this
because of the weight that it can carry firewall forward. This should get
your creative juices flowing! I think it will be only a few years from now
you will see some electric XL's.

      >From Avweb,

Experimenters have made great strides in recent years with electric power
for small aircraft, and a step forward took place last week in Italy when a
new battery-powered airplane flew for the first time, then two days later
reached 155 mph, which is expected to be a new world record for the
category. The Project is a joint enterprise between engineering company
DigiSky and Turin Polytechnic University. The two-seat Pioneer Alpi 300 is
powered by a 75-kW electric motor using brushless technology and lithium
polymer batteries. Electronic control systems make it possible to modulate
RPM and torque, "with dynamics which are far beyond what it is attainable in
reciprocating engines," and the engine is very reliable and long-lasting,
according to the SkySpark Web site.

You are on the verge of the absolute worse point in the 601 building process. My

      It will help.

I think mine was mailed 2 work days after issue. If it is the same with you that
makes the 16th the mail date. I'd give them till Tuesday and call them.
