How are those polished wing skins doing for you guys down there in the Texas sun?
Do you catch a lot of reflections off those wings? Do they have any effect
on how hot it is in the cabin?
Thanks,

Scott, to better visualize your trip, I used Google maps, and managed to
locate the towers:

I believe I did not find your destination - Midway Regional was the only
airport I could see:

Thanks for the report, great motivation!

Carlos,
Eagles Nest is an airpark and looks more like a residential subdivision than an
airport.? It is about 3 miles North and a little West of Mid-Way Regional airport.?
The towers are still North West of Eagles Nest. Eagles Nest is 2TS6 on
a sectional.
The hanger that Scott is in is the second one from the South East corner.? My airplane
is in the next hanger to the North.

It is a very small airport community just north of Midway Regional (Midlothian/Waxahachie
airport). Go to your second link, then type "Eagles Nest Airport,
Midlothian, TX" in the "B" location. Then zoom in on the "B" location you will
see it. It looks like a subdivision street, the runway is so narrow. If you
keep zooming in, you can see the phone number and airport name written in big
letters on the runway. You can see the airport numbers with a "PVT" above
them.

Hey guys, I am not sure if I am breaking a rule or not.
Besides building and flying I ride motorcycles as well.
I am doing and iron butt run for http://www.specialkids-tn.com/
I am doing a run from Murfreesboro TN to St. Agustine FL by way of Slidell LA.
IT is 1000 miles in under 24 hours. Actually, easy! I have been from Jacksonville
to San Diego in under 50hours. It is called a 50cc run.
50 hours or less coast to coast. Search for the iron butt association on the web.
Anyhow, if any of you would be interested in sponsoring me for 0.01 cents per mile
round it to 1000miles ($10.00)
go to http://www.specialkids-tn.com/ and click donation and follow the form. In the donation page comments write "For iron butt run for Rich Simmons"
Let me know if you do though. I will send you some photos of the ride.
The ride will take place starting this Friday the 26th at 3:00am and I will be
in St Augustine Friday night. There are 8 bikes all together.
Thanks for your time.

Hello all,
-
What are the pluses - minuses of using keyed vs. keyless rivnuts.- What i
s the difference?
-
I'm assuming (I know thats dangerous) that the "keyed" rivnuts simply have
a protruding spot that helps in avoiding the rivnut from spinning in it's h
ole.

Bill,
You are correct, the keyed rivnuts will not (hopefully) spin.

If possible don't use rivnuts for a couple of reason ,can be a bit tricky to install
correctly.ALL types may and do spin if the protruding end of the fastener
thread is corroded and it jams onto the rivnut or you over tighten the fastener
and it's easy to strip the threads as rivnuts are usually made for Al and
when they do it's a a pain to take them out as they spin around as you drill
and it usually leaves a lager hole then the original rivnut. [Work with these
little suckers on vintage aircraft] Don't see any evidence of stress fatigue
arising out of notching the holes for the keyed type but keep in mind you do
need the proper size tools especially for the notching. Cheers

After having rivnuts (not keyed) on several spots on my plane I wouldn't use them
again. I even used located on them. I'm convinced that there are rivnuts that
have spun and those that will.

Bill,
You should also be careful about what kind of nutplates you get.? I got some of
the floating nutplate types in which the nuts are prone to spin.? That's no better
than rivnuts.? If you get the floating type (which I don't recommend) make
sure the nut cages are super stout. I have replaced all the spinning ones with
the rigid type nutplates.

I've put hundreds in and I've properly come across a hand full with damaged floating
nuts and the main cause is cross threading /over tightening or plain old
age.We spray/soak the fasteners with Ardrox or Boeshield type long term corrosion
inhibitors.Keeping in mind these anchor nuts are from reputable aircraft
suppliers.Cheers
