If you are worried about paint burning and giving off toxic fumes I think by the
time it can do you harm you are in real trouble already so just make it look
nice and paint it.Even galvanized steel will rust [ saw a Skyfox Gazelle with
a half rusted firewall that was around 15yrs old] .A galv. etch primer then
a K2 top coat comes up looking good. Cheers

Congratulations Glen.
I am traveling from Nags Head back to Michigan and stayed in Chesapeake last night.
We might have been on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel right about the
time of your flight. It's almost like we were there with you :D
Proud moments for you, fly safe.

Yup, it's weight. Take any Cessna, fill both tanks to the rim, and go
fly. Slightly left wing heavy, just a tad. Switch to the right tank for
about an hour, and see what happens. Then, run on the left tank until
it's almost dry. Interesting.

All of you are missing the facts. Dont shoot the messenger, Ask any
aeronautical Engineer, this plane is light wing load, thus, with weight
shifted about it will tend to fly in that direction.

First, here is a link to the new letter on Zenith's web site:
http://www.zenithair.com/zodiac/xl/data/c-heintz-letter-7-2009.pdf
Now for the requested comments . . .
I am glad to hear someone from the Zenith/Zenair community actually
suggest there is a need to do something about all the
accidents. Reduction of gross weight and airspeed limits certainly
should help with the future safety record of this design.
I am now more hopeful I will receive "Official" design changes for
the XL that I decided to wait for before entering flight
testing. The ones I want are aileron mass balance and control system
force changes as demanded by the NTSB.

Attached are the V speeds my Phase 1 testing has produced so far... I presented
these numbers to Zenith during their Hangar Day last month.
What were other flying XL winged craft using prior to today?
