The way all the electronic devices are improving over the months (instead o

I have thought that waiting to buy the instruments untill ready to install

Interesting....
Thanks for sharing - I was close to pulling the trigger on one of the new D

I think I'll hold off for a bit now until I find out more about this one.

As a fellow resident of the South One of the first things I suggest is a GPS with
XM weather. T'Storms pop up and if you are going to be doing any significant
amount of X/C in the Southern summer you will have one pop up in front of you
at some time.
There are several GPS's with XM 3/4/696 are of course the best known.

You do know if you are installing a Dynon it has an AOA function that pretty much
does the same thing as a LRI?

Same reasoning for the BRS,the LRI, and the Dynon goodies. Come to think of
it, same reason why I fly at all. Because I can.

Sometimes the comments on this list have a more far-reaching application than
one might imagine. I've been arguing with myself on when I needed to buy
avionics, since I suspect it may be easier to install before zipping things
up.
I'm planning on making the upper surface of the panel removable, so access is
more a matter of convenience than impossibility. Based on that, and the
comments about how rapidly avionics change (which I knew, but I guess it
needed reinforcing), I'm pretty much convinced to hold off until everything
else is done.
I'm talking about the GPS, the radio, and the transponder. I have an
altimeter, ASI, and similar steam gauge instruments on hand, so they can be
installed much earlier.

GPS experience
I=99ve been contemplating the GPS issue myself.=C2- Both for cost a
nd safety.
For=C2- Hobby VFR pilots ( like myself) one of the safety recommendations
is the GPS be removable so you can take it home and =9Cfly=9D
the trip in your arm chair first.=C2- Less stress, more time to think, to
plan, program, and re-plan.=C2- This is especially true if the plane is
a rental.
Years ago I acquired a used Magellan 315, it had an upgradable aviation dat
a base.=C2- When Magellan stopped supporting this unit a guy on the net f
igured out how to port the FAA aviation software and would provide free dow
n loadable upgrades once a quarter.=C2- Magellan told the guy it was OK w
ith them.=C2- It was a lot of work and about a year ago he stopped doing
it. I=99ve got the last addition on CD.=C2- Then another fellow, a
KR2 pilot, figured out how to port the gps signal to his laptop and I could
use the laptop to display a sectional chart with the gps tract.=C2- It w
as pretty slick and cheap.
Last Father=99s Day I received a Garmin nuvi 205 for the car.=C2- I
t has road maps etc.=C2- Cost about 100 dollars at Sam=99s club.=C2
- It can be connected to the laptop by USB2 connects.=C2- It has a nice
bright moving map. Touch screen control and lots of other really nice feat
ures.=C2- A bet a similar one with an aviation data base would cost ten t
imes that much.=C2- I am looking into the possibility of finding a way to
port aviation maps to the unit.=C2- I=99ll let folks know how it t
urns out.=C2- Phill Hartig

Not quite that much. It almost looks like a slightly bent drill bit. How
good is the hole it produces?

Hi Carlos. I also got one of their drills, and it also wobbled. Had
some misgivings, but in actual practice, it drilled good holes. I'd say,
try it out and see how it produces. Three years or so later, I'm still
using it.

Subject: | Blue Mountain has closed its doors |
I just heard about this on another list:
"Well, it's been fun. We developed a whole new class of machine, started an
industry, dominated it, and are now leaving it. BMA will be ceasing
production and spinning down. The best way to contact us is via email:
support@bluemountainavionics.com. Please don't call, since the office is
not staffed on a scheduled basis. We'll still be around to service, support
and assist as time permits, homebuilders helping other homebuilders, but BMA
is essentially closed. This website is paid up and will be around for a few
years at least, and there is some hope (and a fond desire) that we may
return to full production when the economy recovers. Database updates are
still be available on this site, and service, maintenance and repairs are
still available for all BMA products. We are actively seeking someone to
buy the code and continue development. If your interested, please email."

Carlos-
Roll the damn drill bit on a flat surface and find out if it
wobbles. It doesn't look like it will. If it doesn't, you've got a
collet problem.

I have the Lowrance 2000C and have flown it about 100 hours. It is easy to use,
easy to see, and easy to update online. I am a gadget/geek so keep that in
mind about my comments about easy.
