All- I was shucking corn for dinner tonight by my side yard and heard a "Putt". Not 12' away was ma turkey with her poults. If any of you are hunters, you know this just doesn't happen. Totally fearless. I carried on a conversation with her about her babies and she "putted" like she was answering. No flight, no running, just went on about her business. I've never seen anything like this in my life. The only thing I can think of is, she wants to get her poults in my shop to roost along with the other winged thing that isn't fully fledged. Mind you, I wouldn't be so poetic about a possum. Pictures attached. Can you make out the little guys? do not archive Bill Naumuk Townville, Pa. From: "Tim Juhl" I had a strange visit too. Yesterday I opened my hangar / pole barn and noticed a bad smell. After further examination I found a dead Great Blue Heron lying under my fuselage. I left one of the doors open for a few hours while I was away a couple of days ago and assume it crashed in then. It had about a 4 foot wingspan and was an impressive sight.... too bad it ended up this way. I spent the fourth of July weekend at my Friend Sam Welch's place in Castle Valley, Utah, outside Moab. Castle Valley is named for Castle Rock (see pic) which is a spire where back in the 60's they helocoptered a Chevrolet and model atop it and made a commercial with the MixMaster circling around it filming. Old enough to remember that? Anyway, it's very lush in the Valley floor where Sam's place is. Attached ia a pic of a group of Wild Turkeys that live there. The pic shows five, there were usually six around. We saw them everyday. Also saw Mule deer does with twin fawns and one with triplets! A few weeks ago in my backyard was a family of Gambels' quail. They had 9 chicks. Three days later they were down to 4. I saw a Kestrel grab one of them. Nature can be very tough, but baby Kestrels have to eat too. The attached pic shows the four left, look close and see their "topknots" as already growing. Haven't seen them since. To make this not off topic, I am sending a pic of Sam's metalwork. We bend metal and drill holes. Now here is a metalworker! He is a World Class firearms engraver and has done work for the finest gunmakers in the world. Not many mistakes allowed in this work. Have to be an Artist to boot. Regards, Randy, Las Vegas All- Just shot this lousy picture of the backyard through the screen window in the kitchen. That's a bona fide Pennsylvania wild turkey hen, and the arrows point to some of the poults, who are little brown fluffballs about as big as your fist. do not archive Bill Naumuk Townville, Pa. I hope you can find a good home for your plane. Dan Dempsey do not archive [quote="jaybannist(at)cs.com"]Friends, It wasnt supposed to turn out this way. I dreamed of building an airplane and flying it wherever and whenever I felt the urge to relish the joy of flight. I fulfilled the dream of building, but my deteriorating physical condition has made the flying part of the dream no longer a possibility. This has come as an extremely difficult, heart breaking and demoralizing realization, but I have accepted it. Therefore, my Zodiac 601XL, N2630J, Lil Bruiser, is for sale. It has flow for a little over an hour, so it is virtually a new airplane with a virtually new William Wynne built Corvair engine. It is registered as EAB, and is fully LSA compliant. The test pilot that flew it was very complementary of the airplane, its handling and its performance; so I have every confidence in the airplane. It was built for fun and I am sure it will deliver. If you have any interest, or know of someone who has an interest in buying my airplane, please contact me directly for more information. My e-mail address is jaybannist@cs.com , Phone 214-351-4757.
