This works best if you minimize the edge distance. As it says in the guide "Wait to bevel the front edge until after the skin is riveted" http://www.zenithair.com/zodiac/xl/data/6-b-21b.pdf I recall one builder relief cut slots (with stop holes at their back) between the rivets to minimize the ripple. -- Craig From: owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of Bob McArdle Sent: Saturday, August 08, 2009 3:00 PM Subject: Zenith-List: Top skin rollover How did you guys handle the top skin rollover on 6B21-1 on the 601XL? If so, the following may be helpful. I made relief slots which are actually more like wide notches with the notch the same depth as the rivet edge distance. My rivets are spaced at approximately 50mm. The notches are tapered at about 45 degrees, so that the tab containing each rivet is about 30mm wide at its forward edge. The tabs are rolled smoothly around the tube. As I remember, I formed the tabs before I rivetted the skin in place, so I could "over-bend" them a little bit for a tighter fit. If I were to do it again, I believe I would not roll the skin, but simply finish the outstanding edge with a molded U-channel, ACS p/n 05-01400 or something similar. So too, I kept the full width of the top skin rather than trimming the sides, this gave me 2 rows of rivets. The skin lays much better against the side skins just below the longerons. I saw Paul's 601XL in Camas, WA yesterday. It looks to be 2 or 3 weekends from flying. Great job Paul! I am having lunch with Hans in LA tomorrow and hope to see at least one of Jim's aircraft Tuesday. I am spending Wednesday in Las Vegas and then heading back to school for my senior year. I have to move in Saturday morning. This has been an amazing summer, thank you all who have made it just that much better. :O) Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=256883#256883 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message zenith-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/Zenith-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/zenith-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/zenith-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
