    From: "GLJSOJ1" <gljno10@HOTMAIL.COM>
Hi Everyone I am trying to get more hours flown, but I keep blowing my oil temp sender that attaches to my Westach 4 in 1 gauge. I have just blown my third one after only 1 hour flying time. This sender has two wires coming out the back, one grounded to the same ground as the instrument and the other going to the back of the instrument. I am showing 12.5 - 13 volts on the battery and 15.6 to 16 volts when the alternator is on line. I have the wires tie wrapped within 1-11/2 inches from the sender. Does anybody else have a westach oil temp gauge and what issues has anybody had and are there any fixes. I am going to email westach today also. As an alternative, is that a compatible oil temp sender anybody has used? Thanks -------- 601XL N676L FLYING PHASE I CHESAPEAKE VA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=257988#257988

I have a separate Westach Oil Temp gauge. No problem 200+ hours. Rotax 912 oil temp sender. Your voltage looks high with the alternator on. Mine is 12.4 off and 13.8 on. If you are using a Rotax sender, that is really a VDO automotive sender. Th ere are two types of VDO senders with different ranges, ~0-80psi and ~0-150 psi. The exact ranges are in bar units, of course. Any sender with the prop er relationship of resistance vs pressure and the correct pipe thread will work. Your generator voltage regulator is high should regulate around 14.2 volts 15 max. The gauge should limit the current to the sender to a low value check you donot have an intermitant short applying full battery voltage to the sender. Thanks Guys I will look in to the "short" idea further. I have questioned the high voltage and local pilots say it's fine. I'll start digging more tonight. for some answers. -------- 601XL N676L FLYING PHASE I CHESAPEAKE VA Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=258039#258039
